Lt. Bob

Spread the Daf!
......and he can attest to the fact that when I did this I, as usual, had a substantial buzz going. :D

I've found a drummer and a bass player I like a lot. We just seem to have hit it off so we're gonna play some gigs together and this was the first one.
In fact we've had exactly zero practices......just a couple of jams in clubs. I gave them each some CDs with 50 or 60 songs on them and told them to learn it....they had about two weeks 'till the gig.

This particular tune....none of us had ever played it before.....well, actually I played bass on it a long, long time ago (30 years  ) but I've never played guitar on it before this night. And you can hear the bass player trying to figure out what I was playing at the top of the song. Also, I periodically dropped back into the groove whenever I thought it needed stabilizing.

As usual......I simply stuck a SM-57 at each end of the stage and turned it on. Whatever those two mics picked up is what you get. That's why when I use the talkbox at about 4:30....it's not as loud as it should be because the monitors didn't come into the mics very well. But the recording's passable if you like live jams.

NOTE: This is fairly lengthy.....so unless you like live music and are curious about what your fellow Homerecers might be playing, you might want to pass....you have been warned.

:D hmmmmm, I think i've heard this particular tune before. Sounds pretty damn good for just a couple 57's stuck around. Yeah the "talk box" stuff could of came up some. How old are these guy's you jammin with Lt.? I think i'm gonna go find me some younger cats to jam with, these older guy's I play music with are like me...hard headed and set in their own way:rolleyes: :D . Did Gidge show out?:D post more live stuff!

And would you, by any chance, be interested in drinking this?

Yeah! I've got my own brand of liquor!

:D

Yeah, I know this song....eh........Grateful Dead? Naaah, what the hell is it? Argh! :D

Very groovy, Steve! Good band.

And talkboxes RUUUUULE!

Cool jam Steve. It is cool to hear what you're doing live. Are you doing songs where you sing too, or are you just a jam band? Would love to hear some of the stuff you do in your daughter's group, too. Does that band have a website or anything?

Man, you HAVE to come out to see my band play, Steve. Not because we're good or anything, but because you'd probably get one of the biggest chuckles of your life.

"HOW THE HELL DO THESE GUYS GET PAID?", you'd ask yourself as you ROARED with laughter.

Anyhoo - I wrote a tune for the daughter thing we talked about awhile back. If my check to Waldo ever clears, I'll post a version so you can tell me if your daughter's interested.

Bater Litch,
chris

[edit] My first comment was intended to convey that I think your new band is good; that probably should be stated a little more clearly, lol.

A nice rendition Steve. ' Loved it.... I`ve played the original too, like maybe around 30 yrs ago lol. Most folks wouldnt relate to the name Cobham. Looks like you are in for some extended happiness with these boys...

Steve, you need to stick those recording mics out FOH because the mix during the talkbox and the bass solo fell to pieces on stage......out front it just rocked (both parts).......i think i remember this being played around 1:30 AM? and yes you were under the influence......

David, my wife was with me so I was only mildly intoxicated....but if they would have played Freebird I would have danced on the tables.......

Chris, Steve isnt that type of musician....he wouldnt say "How the hell do these guys get paid...they need a saxaphone!!!"

WTF? Where the hell is the thunderous applause at the end? I thought I could hear Gidge in the audience yelling for "Free Bird", or was he yelling "Free Beer"?

Man I haven't heard that song in at least 20 years. That really brings back some loss of memory! Pretty cool stuff Steve, you are definitely a maniac, and lots of fun to hear a "jam band" again.

Twist

Thanks for listening to this long jam ya'll. I'm gonna try to put up some live stuff on a regular basis.

freshears The guys are in their early twenties. It's very cool to play with young guys....they still have that enthusiasm and energy that we used to all have. I find it to be invigorating.

Pedullist Only when I'm in a bar! :D

rats Yeah I sing.....in fact, that's the only instrumental we do. I'm working on a web-site but I don't know much about it so it might be a while. I am, however, going to start a live thread where I put up a couple of songs from the weekend every Sunday.

Chris thanks man......I'm sure your band's great.....and I'm gonna come see it before too awful long. And I'm sure my daughter will be into it so let me know when your song's ready.

Toki thanks man......yeah, I've always liked this song and it seemed like a good way to see what they could do. I do think it'll be a good band with just a bit of time.

Gidge yes I was under the influence for sure........I did have a feed from the mains but obviously I didn't have it up nearly enough. Thanks for coming out that night....it was fun.

twist I think by that time it had cleared out pretty much.....plus they were probably waiting for Freebird. :D

B. SABBATH Hey.....thanks for listening Sam......the reason the talkbox was so low was that when you use it...you're going strictly thru the PA......since the mics didn't pick the monitors up very good.....that's why they didn't pick up the talkbox. If I'd had the main feed up more, it would have been ok. Yes, it's a real talk box.....a Rocktron Rampage that my wife got me for Christmas......I really like it a lot.

Probably not the place to discuss this, but just how much do you drink Lt.? What are you trying to escape? Was there something in your childhood you'd like to discuss here in the clinic? It is afterall a clinic. :D Actually, I'd love to get totally fuuuuuuucked up and jam with you. I hope I have that opportunity sometime. Maybe if I can get a touring band going some day. You can be the lead tenah honah stud! ;) I mean Al got to jam drunk with you. Just cuz he's got soul does that make him special? :)

That was a cool jam. Pretty damn good live recording all things (such as alcohol :) ) considered. That bass comes through pretty nice too. I was expecting something thinner there, but not thin at all. Good shit!

Oh and that is officially the most smilies I've ever put in a post. (Anyone who actually does a search is a loser!)

Hey Tom....thanks for the listen.......I only drink when I play........of course I play every day. :D

We'll find a way and time to get together. After all ....Al probably didn't expect me to come to Detroit to jam......so one of these days you'll be surprised too.

BTW.....thanks for the emoticons. ;)

Way cool! You guys sound great. Love that arpegio'd major scale stuff. Awesome live sound, how'd you mic that? Get a little more ass on the guitar.

Man I miss having a wah around.
edit: just read the whole post, just two 57s, sounded great.

Definitely a kick-ass jam... if it's been around that long, it could be the inspiration for that one "Bush" song... "...love and hate... cut me right down to size..."

Really cool how you guys can stay right in the pocket, tight as a fist, as hammered as you were ;)

Dang... that drummer rocks. Hang on to him. :p

Pretty decent recording for a "couple-of-mics-on-the-stage" thing.

Some nice lead licks in there too. Fun listen.

WATYF

Steve, you are having entirely TOO MUCH FUN and I am pissed because I'm not down there having it WITH YOU! :D Hey, these young guys you found are happening. I was impressed that the bass player did that part for like five minutes without wandering or doing a Jaco/Jack Bruce impersonation. Drummer sounded solid too. And you were definitely rocking on that one. The two 57's did a good job of giving me the sonic picture. Sure, the talk box was quiet, but the rest was a good snapshot. Is the daughter singing with this outfit or are you a trio now?

I think maybe we need to do Jamfest next summer and get SluiCe to go too.

Wow,great recording!
That bass sounds killer.

Nice guitar tones, some great playing man!

Gidge,you lucky dog!:D
