My letter to Roland about my jogwheel software fix. - Did it end up in the trash?

Did Roland ever reply? They probably didn't, but I'm just curious.
I have a VS-880VX. I use the numerics whenever I can. Other than the ridiculous manual and below average customer support, I love my VS880 and other Roland products.

When my VS880EX was relatively new, I noticed the wheel started to feel strange, so I took the unit apart to see what was inside. I was surprised to see such a puny, flimsy arrangement, and from then on I’ve turned my wheel slow and easy. If I had designed it, the wheel arrangement would be a hell of a lot beefier than it is. Shame on Roland.
 
Hmm. I bought my VS EXpanded 880 brand new when they still had the 540M HD in it and still haven't had the problem. What are you guys doing with/to your shuttle wheels? :p :p :p
 
Turning them fast and hard, until they start to fail. A weak point in the design which they should have foreseen.
 
monty, it's not the encoder that's resposible for this problem. The encoder is working well within it's parameters even when the problem is there. It's Roland's way of using the encoder part that't the fault. They are not allowing the contact bounces from the encoder according to the parts specifications. This leads to that the only encoders that work is new ones (or perfect ones that hasn't been used much)... There is a guy (BB Einstein) on VSPlanet that has a hardware fix for the VS1680 for this problem. It removes the contact bounces in hardware. My fix would do it with software...

I'm talking about the mechanical design of the structure. It's weak and flimsy. You can talk about your solution to your problem, and please allow me to complain about what I see as poor mechanical design of a component that has to withstand possible abuse by heavy-handed operators.
 
It's what we call a hardware problem with software work around.

'We' do chipdesign, but I guess it applies here also...

You are welcome to do that, but it's still nothing wrong with most encoders on VSs that has this problem...

Pardon Monty. He's prone to childishness that sometimes detracts from meaningful discussions.

Thanks for your insights into the VS encoders, Boray. Most of the good stuff is usually kept on the VSPlanet.
