My Latest Mic Score! Removing Paint?

Today I won a e602 on ebay for 56 bucks! The previous owner painted the exterior black. Now this doesn't bother me much as nobody will hear the cosmetic change that has been made to the mic. However it would be nice to restore it and pretty it up. Has anyone tried such a thing? I was thinking of using some sort of paint stripper but I am concerned that may remove the original paint too.
Anyway I am excited to give this mic a try. I have had just about enough of my d112 and I will be selling it locally or perhaps on here.
I would love to hear peoples opinions/experience on the mic and or how to remove the paint.

I wouldn't use stripper, it might get somewhere you don't want and ruin the mic. Try Naptha which is just lighter fluid. You might also have luck with a lighter grade of steel wool but tape off the basket as the fine steel dust could get attracted towards the magnet and end up all over the capsule.

I've tried to take one of my 602s apart but I just can!t get it. That would make your job a lot easier, JG96.

May I suggest bring the microphone right down to bare metal! Michael Joly does this in some of his mods ... I think he calls it the Rat Rod Finish.
That 602 would be the cat's arse with that look.
If you don't like the look ..... Paint it black - to quote Mr. Jagger. :D
 
taking it apart would be optimal. I definitely don't want to damage the diaphragm. I don't know if I would want to go bare on it though. I agree it would look badass but my concern is resale value. Hopefully the mic is all its cracked up to be but if it doesn't work out for me/I get my hands on something better, I would like to have the option of selling it.
 
You are worried about resale value on a $56 microphone? lol :D:D:D:D
 
I contacted the seller of this mic and found out the repaint is actually baked on enamel. I don't think I will try to remove it. I would love to hear any opinions or advice from users of this mic.
 
Never used it but have heard very good things. For $56.00, you got a very good deal.
 
That I did! Hopefully I will like it better than my d112. I think the D112 may be put on floor tom/bass amp duty.
 
Scratch that. I sold the D112 LOL. I will be putting my MD421 on floor tom/bass amp duty.
 
Just got the mic. I was worried it would look super ghetto but It actually doesn't look half bad. There are some imperfections in the paint but from a distance it looks pretty good. Did a quick sloppy sample with the 602 on the cheesiest bass combo ever my ultra rare, Chinese made "Doplomat B20 Bass" The thing has a 6 inch speaker and it sounds boxy as hell but through the E602 It sounds pretty solid. I have great faith using this mic on cheap-o kicks.View attachment 602 Sample.mp3
