Jam room as it is now.webpI rent a warehouse for my business with an extra office, had it for two years and it sat empty most of that time. I am now trying to use it as a jam room, but also to track and mix music. I will admit though, the reverb etc in the room is pretty darn bad. I have made a pic of the way I have stuff in it at the moment. The amps, drums, and desk are placed in there for the best feel of jamming, but quite possibly not for recording... I am comfortable with stuff right where it is, especially because it seems the most comfortable place for my amps. Also notice I have PA speakers in opposite corners of the room... I thought of basing the room around the placement of the desk, but it may ruin the feel of a jam space...the window on the right side creates a problem too though, for the moment I covered it with a piece of thin carpet I had. The room itself does have very flat carpeting in it, not feasible for me to remove it since I rent. The ceiling has a ceiling fan and fluorescents on it. I can play as loud as I want here, I can also be left alone all hours of the night to mix and record with snacks and beverages. I have a brand new laptop with a Tascam interface on a real small desk but it's plenty big enough, and both Yamaha HS8's are on stands. Mostly what will be tracked is close miking guitar cabs, but also vocals. It's up in the air whether I will ever track drums in there. Keep in mind this is a rental unit, no telling how long or short I may be here (could be one more year or eight more), so modifications won't be permanent. I have looked all around at opinions on materials etc and I at the moment I'm thinking I will get some Rockwool (an 8 pack?) and make a bunch of sound panels, put most up but maybe leave a couple to move around to dampen his drums (he hasn't brought them yet). So on top of the Rockwool panels I was going to buy a bunch of foam panels, pin those up, and stuff a huge foam piece inside that window and cover it back up with my carpet.

I know, tough to make a multipurpose room, but that's what's up. Any thoughts?

Jam room.webp SO you can see how the window is, and you can see how it feels right to have the amps like that.

desk.webp Here's the little ole desk, gets it done... you can see the AC/heater down there... I love those speakers though.

Make up your mind - do you want this to be a good 'jam space' or a good place for recording/mixing? Due to the limited space, you can't have both options ideally set up at the same time. If you want to be serious about recording sacrifice some of the jam space ideas.
I'd move the drums to the amp alcove, for a start, and put our mixing 'desk' where the drums are, on the middle of the 13.5' wall. Put the amps along the 17' wall. Bass traps in the corners, and at first reflection points on the side walls and probably alongside the drums, too. Ceiling cloud above the mixing desk and above the drums.
