Well, Im recording a demo for a band, I dont have the vocal melody for it yet, but I decided to record down the music. Let me know what you guys think. I need some constructive criticism since Im new at this.

Sounds a bit like some of my early twiddling the knobs and recording without having an outcome in mind. Some timing issues in the playing, some of the sounds are a bit garish when layered, and it would probably benefit from deviation from the monotonous pattern which currently exists. There are sounds which are easy to engage with, the thud sounds ok but a little full on and loses its novelty value quite quickly. It'll be interesting to see how it sounds with the lyrical options and how that might broaden the track's appeal. I appreciate there are those who like very repetitive, I can think of a couple of tracks with repetitive passages which I like a lot. The thing which makes those tracks stand out to me is the eventual variation or transition, they use high value tonal changes which draw upon a listener's emotive perception.

There are some great tracks in this part of the forum, perhaps have a listen and get an idea of how others approach putting a track together, maybe share a few thoughts of your own, it all adds insight and exposes a reader to a wealth of experience.

All the best, keep at it

Tim

Thanks for the feedback Phrasemaker! I get what you're saying about the "garishness" and I should probably change up the drums in some parts a little bit. I plan on chopping down some parts but adding lyrics is going to be tricky (never attempted to add vocal melodies).

First off, welcome to the forum.

There is indeed a bunch of tuning and timing issues here. I would practice recording with a metronome/click and setting up the guitars so that they are tunable. It seems to me that the intonation may be completely out of whack. That, or someone just forgot to bother tuning before tracking.

Great first stab at recording tho! Keep at it! :D

for the solo I tried double and triple tracking the parts on different sections of the fretboard....I was trying to go for a psychedelic vibe but I guess I missed the mark :laughings:

but even the rhythm sections?

Click, click, click! You need a metronome indeed. Even the most accomplished musicians benefit from using a reference for tracking. To me, playing in tune is really important to achieve good results, so you need to consider tuning your instrument (in this case, the guitar) before recording. And don't forget to put fresh new strings on that axe, it will sound more crispy and the harmonics will be richer.

Hope you can post the track again with vocals on it.

Out of tune anything is my biggest pet peeve, as there is never a good excuse for it! Intonate your guitar properly (doesn't cost that much to have a guitar shop do it) and tune before every take. Done and done ;)

Otherwise, welcome to the world of recording. Keep at it!

It's a good sketch of ideas.
Youi now need to rebuild those ideas from a solid base - with a metronome of drum machine to give you a solid foundation.
Make sure you use the same tuner for all instruments as well as for each take.

+1 to work with a metronome and fix the timing.

It is a bit repetitive. Vocals might help with that though.

thanks for the comments guys! You all have given me a better perspective of the track.

I will try to add vocals in addition to adding the final touches, aswell as re recording the track with a fresh set of strings.
