Alright. I made this recording in my room with my laptop and my soundboard, hopefully it sounds ok. Its my girlfriend singing and playing the piano, and me doing the rest of the instruments. Tell me what you think.

The drums gotta go. There all over the place. get a popfilter for your mic. The volume is up too high. Just a few random thoughts.

Not bad. If thats your first recording I'd say it's real good. The vocals need some Reverb/Delay. Bring the drum volume up in the mix. But like i said, for your first effort, thats pretty damn good. Keep after it. This BB will help you in a big way to "Sweeten" things up.

Yea. Thats my first recording. I only have one mic, so i have to record the drums with one mic, so maybe thats a problem. So if i added delay or reverb to the vocals, what would that do? I really like her voice, so i dont want to distort it too much. Did you guys like her voice?

It's like sitting at church almost. Haha. Well your timeing is off alot there. But keep up the good work, my first recordings were just awful when i go look back at them. You'll learn alot along the way.

the idea of the drums coming in strong towards the end is a good one, but not executed well. Simplify them and no toms, esp. if you're using only one mic, gotta use only the parts of the kit that that mic is doing ok on, some ride, some side stick, light kik.

you have a good voice. I think u should do it with just the piano and one vocal for the majority of the song. add the harmony where needed but with it going through the whole song, it's a little too much. like everyone else said, good first recording.

Piano seems to distort a little bit... maybe back the mics up or lower the gain?

Pop filter needed. Sibilance is a bit of an issue... needs some de-essing. Vocals get a little proximity effect and distortion now and again--back the singer up from the mic about 12-18 inches.

The double is sloppy. Doubling vocals has GOT TO be dead-on or it's just rubbish. (Just so you know.)

The drums...

Okay, other than the performance and timing issues the drums sound a million miles away. No depth or clarity on them. Absolutely no high end... sounds like a low pass filter was put on them.

The mix isn't hot either. Everything sounds independent of each other instead of a meshed whole.

What was your tracking and miking setup? Did you record everything at once? How many mics used? How did you mix it? Did you use compression and eq?
