My first Recording Session in months......

Pretty nice there Zeke. Much better than your older stuff. I think someone already said but I would add a little high end on the over heads. Don't know where exactly but, the cymbals sound a little muffled. I dig the kick sound, I've been having a hard time with mine. I have to do some serious subtractive eq (-10db) with a low Q(around 1) in the low mid area. I think I need a better kick drum mic.

I'm completely w/ the above comment. I think there needs to be some work done on the sound you're getting....the snare, for one, seems overly roomy sounding, and doesn't have much pop....but as, erichenryus said, anything's better than a drum machine, so you've got something to work with......

other than that, i'm not a huge fan of pod's for guitars, but it sounds okay.........not bad for a little jam tune
 
Thanks guys. I didn't think that this thread was going anywhere.

The cymbals are a Sabian AA 16" crash, 12" Pastie and a Camber Ride. (I know, that camber sucks, i used to have some of their crashes, but i got rid of them because they sucked. But i kept the ride. It's sounds good for a camber don't you think?)

Yup, nice sounds there. Maybe the drums could be a little less upfront in relation to the guitar? Leave the bass as is. Happy with your new gear, huh? :)
 
I'm impressed Zeke. You're getting a pretty good snapshot of the drum kit with the four mics. Yeah, the cymbals are a bit nasty but we're taking things to a very fine point. Personally, I like the drums upfront in the mix. Everything sounds VERY goodespecially concidering that everything is dry. Great job my friend.
 
Thanks. I don't know about the cymbals. They sound fine on my studio monitors, but i guess it could be the room that i'm monitoring in. I haven't had the time to treat it yet. thanks for the reply!

glad to see you back in business bud. The sounds are good and you gettin it all in the mics. You could open the threshhold on that ART a little and fatten that bass without addin much eq. The guitar is hot, not as bright as some of the stuff I`ve heard from you but its comin on in. Your gonna be a monster.....
 
Thershold on the ART? THe art is a pre. It's just got a gain and output knob. Are you talking about the compressor? Explain your idea......

my bad, I was thinkin about my ART tube comp. Opening the gain some more on your pre would probly fatten it some more, then limit the output.
 
So i can turn the gain up and then turn the out down to maybe half as loud as the gain to fatten it up more?

Play with a little, when you get back from Pamela`s house. You dont want to overload and obvious distort it though. You`ll see what i mean.
you can crunch it a little more where it sounds more like a tube amp.
 
Fantastic man! Drums sound sweet...is that you playing? Nice chops if it is.
 
Pretty good drum sound there, Zeke -- a little bit of a strange ambience, but not terrible - also I noticed a couple of timing issues. You managed to get some reasonable bass definition - no excessive boom or mud....!

I totally hate the guitar part - tone is ok but the performance is just terrible...

Certainly is the best I've heard from you so far, though!

Thanks BB. Yeah, i don't really like the guitar part either. But it's all i could come up with in the short amount of time that i had to do this. (I think I did the whole thing in about 30mins.)

Freshears-thanks. Yeah, i played all the tracks. The First was the drums, then the bass and then the guitar track.
 
Oh, The only part that i DO like about the guitar part is the picking technique i used that came in 2 times in the song. I did that by picking the string and then taking my pick and "Hammering" it on the fret as fast as i could. Sorta like a "Zack Whyde(spelling?)" sound.

Sounding good!

You got a nice clean acquisition there. The drums are a bit upfront in the mic, and everything is pretty dry, but overall it's a funky jam! You've got a good sense of pocket, that will improve as your meter does on the drums... Well done, dudeage!

Yeah, i went back to the project on my recording system and turned the drums down a little. I might add a little hall or room revurb to the snare. Thanks Llarion!
