Hey yall,

Im about to put pretty much everything I have into my first mixer, and I want it to be good. Ive been thinking very strongly towards Mackie, my brother has one and loves it, and I don't know anything about the other brands out there. Im probably going to spend anywhere form 700-1000 dollars on it, so any help would be much appreciated. The specific mixer is the 1642 VLZ Pro

Depending on your needs, check out the Soundcraft M12 and the Allen and Heath Mix wizard as well.

thanks a million, i really like the way the soundcraft looks, seems like it has good specs, and all reviews ive read are pretty much 9-10/10. i may consider this one, definitely a great price.

Look at the new Mackie Onyx. The sound quality, from all accounts so far, is quite a bit above any of the ones you've mentioned so far. You'd probably never want/need to sell it, it would always serve a purpose either as extra preamps or a sidecar mixer even if you've got a Neve desk.

Either that or get a Crest.

dude I like got this neve console with a totally fucking wicked mackie sidecar!
