This is my first actual mix attempt. The recording itself isn't that great, as I did everything in pretty much one take, and my recording gear (or lack thereof) sucks...I don't have any microphones as of yet, but I'll be getting one soon, so everything was recorded direct, with no direct box or anything.

I had to use a software bass/drum machine because I don't have a mic, a drumset, or a bass guitar :D But it's me playing the rhythm guitar and lead.

To make things worse, I was missing the high E string on my electric guitar, so I had to make up my own solos (couldn't play the actual solo in the song without it).

Here's a sum up of the equipment I used...

For acoustic guitar:

Acoustic -> 1/4" cable -> 1/4" to 1/8" converter -> SoundBlaster Sound Card

For electric guitar:

Electric -> Fender G-Dec Amp (Phones output) -> 1/4" cable -> 1/4" to 1/8" converter -> SoundBlaster Sound Card

To sum it up, my current setup is about as bad as you can get. Even my guitars and amp sucks. Anyway, tell me what you think, and try not to bash me too hard. ;)

Btw, the song is Knocking On Heaven's Door, in the style of Guns N' Roses, but I changed it quite a bit so it's kind of a mix between their version and my own. Anyway, tell me what you think.

I replied to this on the other board- mixing/mastering- just lazy to type again :)

I'd bring the snare up and the toms to match the volume of the rhythm guitar.

Maybe balance the drums and the rhythm guitar more to the center .

Lead guitar is pretty good as is. You should get a new string though (lol).

Played well.

The tones are pretty good for direct but micing would open them up some and give them a bit more flavour.

(all in good time when you get your mic....)

Could use some vocals but those chords are so identifyable ;)

Good job for your first recording - way better than mine (lol)! :D

Thanks. =)

I really wish I didn't have to resort to a drum/bass machine, but oh well.

I'd remix this one but I'm gonna wait until I get a mic and just redo it.

Thanks for the replies. :cool:
