My first mix ;d

Hmmm, there seems to be a compressor on the entire mix that is pumping like crazy. It's very distracting. I couldn't get past that and had to turn it off. Rethink putting anything on the main bus. Use compression sparingly and only as needed on the individual tracks. See if that works better.

Post a revision back up in this thread.

Cool.

Yeah, nix that compressor on the MB asap. Here are my ideas: the kit isn't groovin with itself. What I would do is make an aux chanel to bus out everything from the kit too (bass, snare, cymbals/overheads...) Maybe a little compression on there but put some reverb on it and mix the aux track and the kit together. This well put your entire kit in a "room" and make it sound more natural and will have less separation. Next would be the guitar sound. It's very thin and buzzy. It's lacking midrange alot. I actually like this tone for other projects but I dont hear it working for your track. I also dont think they functioning well being completely dry. Add some verb to the guitar. You have this piano with verb and then these completely dry guitar tracks come in and its not fitting in for me. Im also not hearing any bass.

I don't think it would be a bad song at all...but the mix is really irritating. Unfortunately I'm not very skilled at describing the "why" of something not sounding right to me, but here's what I didn't like: the guitar(s) sound like one long fuzz train most of the time, especially in the end. Something is making my head hurt (I don't know if that's the "compression" Chili is talking about or what?!).

and while I'm on a roll :o about that ending...hated it . Sorry.

I would like it hear it again if you try any of the modifications the others suggest

Liked the Guitar.

Yes, the levels are all over the shop, and the "pumping" masking of various instruments (and the overall sound) suggests a poor use of compression is the problem... or that you are sending very high levels to the main bus and then "fixing" it with a limiter.

You can get away with some saturated peaks but try to get the main bus mix levels about right before working on the "loudness".

Ouch! Holy compression Batman!!!!

I think it's a pretty good tune, but I can't tell. Man, lose the processing and you might have something here.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Ill try and fix the compression, give the guitar more mid tones and verb, kick up the bass, make the drums sound more realistic, and work on the ending...

Anything else?

and what do you mean by "lose the processing"? Digital guitar dist?

No, sorry. I should have been more specific. I meant the compression. It sounds like a good tune, and the playing is good.
