Not bad, but next time have the drummer go easy on the cymbals if you want any rack tom or hihat to come through. A good sounding well played kit can record well with fewer than 5 mics. A kit played out of balance like that will need more than 5 mics so you can isolate and re-balance the parts.

So you multi-tracked it really :D ... The guitar(s) have a nice crunch but I know you're gonna get lots of people complaining about the muddiness. It harkens me back to the 70's when Black Sabbath ruled the basement.... I like this mix being a guitar player.....

agreed on the cymbals comment. the drummer had HUGE, loud cymbals which he had super high on the stands and played hard. asked him to lower the cymbals to get them away from the overheads which he did - about 3 or 4 inches and they were still easily 18 inches above the top of the snare. they were basically eye-level with the drummer.

any other non-performer related comments?

thanks!

thanks 1957. Are you saying the guitar is muddy or just muddy overall? i think a lot of the mudiness comes from the bass being too loud in the room. i thought it sounded ok at the times especially since they were going for a very sludgy sound.

Nope - I like the guitars but nowadays a lot of stuff is razor sharp cutting buzz so you may get some comments like that. I like your mix as it is - no complaints...
