Hi
I'm a really newbe in matters of home recording. I used to be a DJ at some friends parties so I have some equipment and I don't know realy what to do with it but it wold be very cool If i could use it for my firts recordings.
I have
A laptop with mic in, phones out only
An old machine, windows 95, Pentium 133, 16MB Ram, sound board with line in, mic in, line out and MIDI joy port
A 4 RCA channels mixing table + mic 1/4 in + RCA output and RCA rec out
A 4 mono 1/4 channels rack mixer
and an amp + speekers

How can I use this for my first recordings?
should I buy an external soudboard like soundblaster extegy for my laptop or some other hardware?
What program should I use to record with my old PC?
Should I post This somewere else?

MIDI Joy Port....thats funny:D

With those speeds you aint gonna do much.
You will probably have to stick to a simple program or an older one.
A soundblaster wont help much either.
You may want to consider a USB interface rather than an audiocard for this laptop.

The chances of that machine being suitable for recording anything more that two tracks of audio are very remote. I couldn't get moe rthan four track or so with my Pentium 233 MHz a few years back. The speed of the hard drive controller is a limiting factor.

Almost any current version of recording software will never run on 16 MB of RAM. (Gee, will Windows 95 even boot?)

Windows 95 boots on 4 I think. :) It was useable on 16. 32 was OK, 64 great, 128 overkill. :)

Anyway: You can either get a good sound card for that laptop, assuming that the laptop has more ooompf than the other PC.

Or, you can get started with a really cheap standalone DAW of some sort. The Fostex MR-8 is supposed to be completely useable, and cost $300, which probably is what a good soundcard will cost you anyway. It has all you need.

If you go with a PC, good cheap software is Protools Free and N-tracks.

Personally, I hate recording on computers. YMMV.

The laptop is a pentium 4, 2.4GHz, 512MB Ram.
What kind of hardware should I buy for the laptop?could you give me an example

watashi no amerika jin desu, DA YO NE!

i'd go with the laptop over the win 95 system for the recording...i think you have enough hardware....what all are you trying to record?
