Unpossible!
Well, this was never meant to be a finished piece, but due to some things beyond my control, it is.

Let me know what you think! :)

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, but I thought the drums sounded absolutely cool as hell. Something about the vocals isn't quite sitting right with me, but I can't figure out what it is. Cool song, though, and I really liked the guitar tones as well.

Actually, that is why it's "sorda" complete. It was never intended as a finished project, because the drums were recorded by the drummer, and he made a few mistakes - mainly running most of the drum mics straight into the converters (no preamp). We re-did the drums (a whole cd worth), then started on the vocals when the band discombobulated. Now, the singer/guitar#1 is going to do everything thats left. The new drums sound WAY better.

I was in the local shop in town and saw a flyer for a free mastering demo, and this is what he did. It really took it up a notch.

Also, the singer sings kinda different. It grows on you tho. :)

Really growling, fuzzy guitar tones. I loved the bass. I guess the only hit I can really give it is the singer's voice. To me (only an opinion...) his voice doesn't fit the music.

Love the guitars. Vocals do stick out a bit. I won't say bad, just don't seem to fit right. The music seems to want something harsher. When he overemphasises, and distorts his voice, they fit better. The main vocals are just to clean. Outro vocals fit better.

That's all I would "fault" this song on, and I'm no expert.

Cool tune.

My thoughs exactly. It's too clean or SOMETHING. It just doesn't fit.

The growling whatever he is doing sounds forced. I think he was trying to emulate death metal and missed it. Great guitar tone, and the mix sounds really good. I liked the song for what it was.

Agreed with the Vox not fitting, way to clean and "pretty". What happened to the "mastered" version? Sounds like level drops and then comes back in at 1:28. Oops? I like the song, it is very different! Good work!

I think you are referring to the A/B - which means it switches back and forth between mastered and unmastered.

BTW - I deleted the link.

It's cool. The part I actually don't like is the snare. I would have made the snare sparkle more. Right now it's much like a tin drum with the tops cut off. IMO.
Ah the solo is here. I would have tweaked the solo guitar a tad more. Maybe panned it slightly as well.
Keep it up.

every thing is fine. as a metal fan i love the music minus the muffled snare sound but i hate the vocalist he seems like he is trying too hard and he needs a dub behind him to bring his voice out and i can hear the auto tune which is a bad thing but i love the song the words a great.

Yep - drums are crap all around if you ask me - most drum mics went straight to converters (no pre's) - not my idea.

As far as the autotune, ya, you can really tell - only problem is I don't own an autotuner, and wouldn't know how to use one if I did. That's just the way he sings. If it makes you feel any better, your not the first person to say that.....

:D

I love how the guitars sound, drums need more presense. Singer dosn't fit with the music, seems to forced\out of place.

How did you get that guitar sound?

Well, I used "Believe" by Disturbed as my model. I didn't quite pull it off - mainly due to the actual guitar tone. The band had a "chunkier" sound than Disturbed.

Basically, I miced the cab's with a Audix D-3. Sent the two parts raw to a group Stereo channel. A SLIGHT 5 khz bump, and tried to find a reverb that matched the Disturbed sample for the group channel. That's about it - no Voodoo - :D

Nice work!

it improved so much since that first time you sent it to me.

You a bad ass nigga :D

Peace
Jose

The snare is really really really far back in the mix for heavier music. Get it up there with some crack! It sounds nice by itself, but with the rest of the mix it just sounds like it's from a totally different song.
Get the vocalist to put more "umph" into growls. Like some have said, they sound really forced. It also sounds like there are some botches in the double bass where there are supposed to be rolls (it sounds like he does a blast then gives it a rest and then keeps doing that). Maybe it's just the levels? I think my main thing with this mix is the drum sound. If I hadn't looked at the bitrate I'd have said it was because it was an mp3, but at 256 it should be fine.
A pretty good/balanced mix in general.
