My first amp...

Like many other newbies, I was using pair of my home sound system to plug my guitar into. But it was then so many years ago. My first "real" amp was Fender Bullet Reverb. Small, but verrrryy lovely. Took it everywhere I go...
How about yours ?
 
A small Gibson amp,... can't remember the model though.... (1980)
Then a Carvin 100 watt all tube.(1982)
 
This should be a cool thread...

1. Sonax 775G (I know...you've never heard of it. I hadn't either. Big mistake)---------->gave 'er away I think, after crying.
2. Traynor Bloc 100G (not bad actually for a beginner amp...had a gain boost.)----------->sold 'er.
3. Fender Dual Showman red-knobber - BIG, CLEAN, LOUD, and I mean LOUD with a 4x12.------->sold 'er.
4. 66 Fender Bassman and 4x10" (kept that one of course).
5. Peavy Classic 20 (sold 'er on Ebay) upgraded to:
6. 66 Gibson GA-5T (put a new Jensen p10R in it too).
7. ????????????????????????????? What I want are one of either a Deluxe Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, or Vibro King (I need a reverb, tremolo combo!)
 
I tried using a really crappy no-name boombox for a while.

My first amp was a 8" single-speaker Crate 10 watt solid state. Sorta OK clean tone, but has some of the world's worst overdrive. Ugh.
 
i have a crate 10 watt bass amp. its like a 15-something-or-other, im not sure. when i get money im going to get a beastly amp. like one of those workingmans tower amp thingys. those are big. i also use a pa system more than my amp. sounds good, and the mixer we use can distort it so i dont need any pedals...yet...

Shit! you think thats bad?
I had a real cheap Realistic turntable mixer.
I fugured out that if I plugged my guitar into the mic input and cranked it up all the way I would get distortion. :eek:

That my friend was the worst distortion in the world
 
Crate CR 112 with a cool little wood strip on it.
Sold it on consignment at the same store I bought it and came out $5 ahead.

Why do I remember that? That was almost 20 years ago.
 
one of those shitty 10 watt squire amps..... it hurt to play with it, and worsly (is that a word?) i blew it only two months after having it.... now im using a johnson jt 50 just as a practice amp, and have a mesa/boogie recto standard 4x12 sitting in the closet just waiting for a two channel triple rec... one day soon...

I bought my first amp in a pawn shop. I don't remember what the wattage was, but it had 6 10 inch speaks in the cab. I do remember that it said "Sears" on the head though.

I am a bass player, my first rig was a Memphis six string guitar with only the bottom four and I shared the input on the guitarist's Crate with one 12 inch speaker in it. Next I got a crappy Magnum bass from the pawn shop and an actually quite decent used Yamaha 1x15. I cant remember the model number but it sounded good.

My first "real" amp was a Galien Krueger 800 RB. I kept melting the transformer in the thing until I figured out to keep a clip on extra fan on the back!

For the last 15 years I have been playing through a Seymour Duncan Bi-Amp 8000. It like a car stereo on steroids but it never breaks and the tone stays the same.
 
A tiny little blue supro with only an off/on/volume knob a white pilot light , and an 8 inch jensen special design speaker . I played my Tiesco single pickup small body semi acoustic through it and dreamed of Wes Montgomery .

Well, I've still got my first guitar amp.

It's a Mesa/Boogie Studio Caliber DC-2
25 watts of window-rattling heaven. ;)

I've only been electric for 3 years. :cool:
I got the amp for a significant birthday.

I had a Peavey practice amp. It had a 6" or 8" speaker, and sounded exactly like you would imagine. Really, considering that my first guitar to go with it was a blue Memphis explorer copy that had a neck like a baseball bat, I'm surprised I stuck with guitar.
 
A Heathkit amp -- originally used as a mono hi-fi amp. All tube, anyway. Just don't use the phono input.
 
Heathkit ! I remember that stuff wow that's a name out of the past did you build it yourself ?

when is was 13 (1973) my grandad took me to the music store and bought me a gibson SG copy guitar and a epiphone tube amp. the amp was small with one 12" speaker. I started cleaning up a pallett factory after school and was making a little money when that amp burnt a transformer. i went to a pawn shop and bought a fender super reverb for $100. traded the SG copy heads up for a vintage gretch county gent.

i wish i still had the super reverb and the country gent.
 
I rented a few amps before I bought the Marhsall jcm 800 (2205 combo) I still own.

Yeah, the GK's can get pretty hot... pretty quick!

I've got a 200RCB which might as well be a preamp. It'll drive a cabinet... but not very hard. Makes for a good practice amp.

Good tone, though.
