Actual song:

Drum track:

Just an example of what I mean. I posted my drum sound a while back and everyone said how it lacked hi-end. I can't figure out what it is, but all my recordings lack hi-end! I need help!

Equipment:
-Delta 44 (4 I/Os)
-Behringer 1604A mixer (4 XLR inputs)
-Yorkville YSM1p monitors

Drum micing:
-Pearl Export drums () with the back head cut in the middle, there's about 2-3 inches of head left on for micing purposes.
-2 Oktava MK012 cardioid condenser mics as overheads
-Shure SM57
-Shure Beta 52

Heres what my downstairs looks like, I don't know the exact measurements, but the proportions are fairly accurate.

I'm going to post the individual tracks for the song I gave you all the link to to see if it's just my pathetic mixing or my room. STAY TUNED! If you're willing to remix the song, I'll gladly post the tracks!

Dude.
Just tell me you can import your tracks to Pro tools and Ill do a mix of them for ya.
Marty

So fix the EQ. It's simple as that.

Futhermore - turn up the volume on your cymbals, it's way to low.

hey FattMusiek, what did your guitar player play through? if it was miked, how did you mike it? i really like the tone

Yup, it's definitely your mix. Maybe it is just how the sound was coming across through the file, but it sounded to me like you were hitting the ceiling (peak) way too hard every stroke on your kick. It could be internet distortion, but if not, bring your gain down and then bring it up in the mix.
Or if MartyMcFly is willng to help.....take him up on the offer :)

Yeah...
Im new to this mixing other peoples stuff so if you can figure out a way to get me all of the individual files Id gladdly mix it my way for you and if you like it then ill tell you how I did it.

Actually, how should I convert them? Should I convert them to 192 Kbps mp3s?

resource for good sounding drums

Try getting a July copy of Home Recording Magazine. It has some good stuff in it about recording and mixing drums and Bass. I picked up a lot of good ideas from it.

Also, when you get the EQ situated try speading out the stereo field out a little. That way the different instuments won't be competing as much.

Muddy

I think it's the pres in the behringer. I did some tracking a couple weeks ago using a behringer board and everything sounded muddy and lacked hi end.

Get them into wave files and consolidate them so that each of them start from the beginning of the song and label them all clearly then youll have to email them to me. Once you get them all together Ill PM ya and give you my email.

Hm, I'm not sure if my email thing will allow wave files...they're huge. Can I just convert them to mp3s like ChrisHarris did for his HRBBS Challenge? I can upload them to my cox cable account and nowhere radio.

Sounds like it will work. Just let me know when you got that done. Im really interested in trying to improve your mix. And like I said, if you like it Ill tell you what I did.
Marty

Roger that, I'm converting the tracks now then I'll upload em. I'll send you a PM when they're ready :)

I dont think my PM thing is working. Or maybe I have notification turned off. Ill check it.
