after i added SDram to 128 i felt the mixing process is faster a little bit
so i mixed many times in samplitudeSEKD from 32bit into 16bit wav and while i played the finalmix from window directory
i didn't close samplitude which shouldn't matter much
but in the middle of that wave playing
it stuttered and hanged,i had to reset and after that my comp
openup with a BLANK DriveD!
where did all those hardwork of mine gone? ( i kept BUN,WRKin D )
anyone ever experience this?how can i rescue them?
please thnx

You mean D is not showing up in windows explorer or when you look on D it's blank? Were there folders on D or was all your wav data going to the root?

- if you open up my computer and right click D, select properties. What is the capacity versus what is being used.
- from start>run type command, switch to your D drive - do a DIR there, and also a DIR /ah - what do you see?

D is intact with not one file left
the capacity returns to almost 2gig like b4
it's like i totally erased all the files in D
why this happened?

sounds pretty scary .... run scan disk and see if theres anything wrong with d drive....

I don't know why this happened Istyle, major drag. Hope you have CD-R backups. Did you search your C drive for *.bun , maybe it got moved there?

What OS are you running?
Is your D-drive a separate disk or a partition?
The 2Gb capacity, is that the total capacity or is it what you had left before the accident?
What did scandisk return?
What happens if you take the extram memory out again?
What did a command promt "DIR" and "DIR /ah" return?
Were there any folders before or did you store everything to root?
What other information can you provide?

First, is it blank after you reboot again? If so, continue.

Why were you mixing the whole song down from 32 to 16 bit? That is extrememly RAM intensive and I don't recommend doing that. Work in 16 bit until CD's can handle 24 bit encoding and sampling rates.

You also said you were doing your playback from the windows directory, this seems odd to me, unless the file was loaded as a temp file in the temp directory.

Need to know the following:
Is your D: drive partition or are you running dual drives.

I am not familiar with samplitude, but I am assuming that it is a sample program similar to that of the gigasampler. Do you know if this program streams for the RAM or directly from your hard drive?

Goto a DOS prompt. type D: and hit return. When you have the D: prompt, typ DIR. Any files? If not there is one of two things that happend.

1. If you are running your D: drive as a partition, something fouled up in your sys files. You will most likely need to reformat the D: partition and start over.

2. If you are running a seperate hard drive, then the drive may be dead.

thnx for many suggestions
i'll try rundown the details again but keep in mind that i know so little about comp so i can't answer about DIR/ah thing cos i don't know it
my comp is P2 running window98
i always record in 24bit in cakewalk first then i 'll edit the mix with SEKD later cos i feel i can hear lot more detail than doing a 16bit recording
i'll give reverb like acoustic mirror or maxxbass inSEKD in 32bit ( internal processing of SEKD ,i know this is too much but i don't know how to do it with just 24 cos once you set SEKD to 24 it will turn 32 if you don't want 32 you have to do in 16 ,no24 i think )
and i have a habit of exporting the mix out of the prog several time to check ,with the CAKE ( in the cake finalmix ) hide in taskbar and click on the wave at its directory to hear:
first time maybe the bass too low,ok i click the CAKE out of taskbar again and do 2nd mix ....on and on until i'm satisfied
but this time it's SEKD and i just got more RAM so? maybe this si why it happened
My D is a separate drive total capacity is 2 GIG
and it was set up as backup of C so it has many folders and files
SEKD can stream fromRAM but i do it from HD
When it hanged and i reset it also went into scandisk and went thru the process
after that coming into win98 my shortcut to D refused,it said association file is unavailable
i had to go in D by clicking mycomp ....and saw an empty drive!
i just check the drive by copying file from C to it and it seemed to operate fine the file is good
oh one thing is no files from D is removed to C
they all gone to midi heaven i guess!

i think i don't have to test by remove the extra RAM out since everything is gone

Im sure they've gone to a better place .. Perhaps the mix just wasnt working so they just packed up and left!!
Sorry istyle , just trying to add a bit of humour to an otherwise traumatic experience. I wish u the best of luck bro, but im just getting use to fixing probs too so best left to the experts.. Ive heard about file recovery discs.. im not sure what this is but perhaps someone can elaborate and tell if something like that can fix the problem here ..?
So really the drives fine, isnt it? u can copy and retrieve from it? so the problem is the loss of data? What stigmatha was meaning was in msdos type d: cos this will bring up a prompt for your d drive .. Then after the d: type dir .. this will bring up a directory of everything in that drive , if anything at all. Its not something silly like the files in that drive are hidden ...? i know its stupid but you would be surprised. Does the capacity show the maximum available on the disc? well good luck anyway ..

can it be that among the havoc of the hang
it asked me whether i want to delete the Ddrive or not and the delete in con-alt-delete answered yes to it?
thnx for all
i'm so used to havoc and disaster
that's why they keep coming to me HAHA
trouble is my middle name!
