I have been using cubase LE for over 2 years now, I would say I am fairly competent at it and have had no problems apart from my laptop crashing and the usual noob stuff which I overcame ages ago. About a month ago however I turned on Cubase as usual to record some vocals and it just did not work, this problem persists and has completely baffled me!
I use a Alesis IO2 portable audio recorder to record vocals and instruments, normally my keyboard. I hook up said instrument to the Alesis, then the Alesis into my laptop via a USB cable, all very simple stuff.
Basically the problem is that whenever I connect my Alesis device to my laptop and go on Cubase and click on Devices>Device Setup>VST Multitrack - which is what I have always done perfectly well - I click on Alesis IO2 USB ASIO and it keeps simply saying "NO ASIO DRIVER ERROR".
Now that error message has confused me for ahwile, not only because the wording of it is very ambigious but also because the technique I have been using for a very long time to record, has suddenly and for no apparent reason stopped working.
I have tried everything, new inputs, new instruments, new cables etc etc, turned my laptop on and off countless times, I have also uninstalled, re-installed and "repaired" my Alesis software many times but nothin has done the trick. I have not reinstalled Cubase because I am fearful of losing all the projects I currently have saved on there.
I also downloaded the ASIO4ALL v2 driver after reading that may solve my problem, but that too has done nothing. I just can't understand how a simple connection which I had mastered is now not working, and how everytime I plug something into my Alesis the sound is registered with the lights flashing on the Alesis box - but no sound at all is recorded by Cubase.
I would very much appreciate if anyone can give me any information whatsoever as to the cause of, and hopefully solution to, this problem although I also appreciate it may simply be a case of my software being too old, as I know I do not have the most advanced or modern version of Cubase.
Thanks a lot in advance
