My brother was going to take these to Goodwill...

Throwing the towel in on this one...put the new regulators in and the problem persists. The rectifier diodes remain cool as do the +/-12V regulators, but the 5V regulator gets hot pretty quick. That feeds logic world and I ain't goin' there. So unless anybody has any ideas the Quadraverb is going in a box somewhere as a parts unit for someday in the event I get another one.

Oh well. Win some, lose some.

Resurrecting this Quadraverb project.

Been trolling CL and eBay for awhile looking for one.

Found one on eBay down the street from me untested and without power supply for $25 starting bid. Since it was local I asked the seller if I could come by with my power supply and see if it worked. He replied he was out of town so that wouldn't work, but that if it didn't sell I could just have it for free. I said "okay." :D

It didn't sell.

Picked it up today. He made no promises...in fact made it clear he thought it wouldn't work. Says it was part of Guns 'n' Roses live rig at some point. Anyway its actually in nice shape cosmetically...missing the level knobs but I have those from my parts unit.

Plugged it in annnnnnnnd...

Nothing.

Opened it up. Sniff-sniff-sniff...

Mmmmmmm burned electrical.

Found the stinker...cooked ceramic blocking cap across the power switch. Everything else looked really nice.

Pulled the cooked part, put in an equivalent part and viola! Works like a charm. Free Quadraverb and it even has the "Plus" chip installed. Gonna clean it up and recap it, service the pots and put it in the rack.

I have a hunch maybe the original power supply took a hit and it cooked the blocking cap.

Sounds like it was the power supply, I had one burn up a few years back did the same thing.

And you never know.....Axel Roses vocals could of ran through that thing!

That cap was knock, knock knocking on heaven's door! :D

Cheers! :)

I think I'm going to have a t-shirt made up that says "I hate recapping double-sided PCBs"

Might could do a group buy if anybody else is interested.

All recapped, pots serviced (no more skritchies)...powered it up and there was a bad weird logic problem. But I fixed it. :D

SO...fully functional very-good-condition Quadraverb that is now recapped and serviced and was free. And considering I had all the caps on hand from other defunct projects it was nice to reduce my inventory of caps...and they were money already spent.

Yay.

Bought it from this guy: Charles Normal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So it WAS involved with GnR...not sure when, but he's been friends with Dizzy Reed for a long time and was involved with the Chinese Democracy sessions. Still pretty cool. Nice guy.

Congrats on another successful resurrection project! :)

Cool to know there's some colorful history behind the piece too!

Cheers! :)

My test of the Quadraverb

Sorry...wish I could say it was tracked analog...someday. But since it was tracked through the Quadraverb which is pretty much considered vintage at this point I can get away with it?? :D

This was a spontaneous composition as a testing doodle, 4 stereo tracks to an iPhone using a Sonoma Wire Works GuitarJack2...3 tracks bass and one track guitar both direct through an ART Tube MP OPL and then wet through the Quadraverb all using the same stereo delay patch. I did add some reverb in the multirack app to the guitar track and one of the bass tracks, but otherwise these are raw tracks. I really like how the Quadraverb sounds. A bit noisy but all tracks are 100% wet and stereo at that so you've got 8 channels of Quadraverb *hisssssssss*.

So it WAS involved with GnR, but prior to them being signed. Still pretty cool. Nice guy.

Ask him to sign something. Some twat will pay well over the odds for that!

I just sold a pair of monitor two's from the mid 90's for $200 on craigslist.

I gave the guy the extra tweeter, otherwise I'd offer it to you.
