Unplugged it, plugged it back in...still doing it.
My brand new mic keeps making this thumping/windy noise. PLEASE HELP.

Even now...both my DAWS are closed, no mics plugged in, and the db indicators are flashing red/orange/green. This thing is literally malfunctioning. But when I open my DAW, it records it for a while but the sounds stop and the indicators shut off. When the indicators were back to normal...i tried to plug my mic back in. The thumping was back. Thats with the new (neumann) mic. I plug in my old rode. Its starting to thump now too, but the thumping is weaker, not as strong as the neumann.

OK stop.
*Unplug all microphones and XLR cables. Don't plug them in again until the problem is sorted.*
If the interface is acting up without microphones plugged in, turn off phantom power and see if it still does it.
If so, get on google and make sure your drivers are up to date and compatible with your operating system AND change the usb/firewire cable and port.
If you're using a hub, don't. If you're plugged into a front port, go for a rear one instead.
If you're plugged into a rear port, plug into a different one.
If you update drivers, restart the computer.
If you do ALL of these things and the problem is still there, take the interface to a new computer.
If the problem exists after all these changes and on a new computer, you may have a faulty interface.

I'm not sure you really have to do all that ...... it's clearly messing up ..... I'd send it back for a replacement.

It's fixed...for now. Something in my head said, try another usb for my preamp. I did. After I did that, it worked, no clipping no thumping. At first I thought it was a one time fix and that the problem would come back so I put the old cord back, and guess what, the clipping and thumping came back. Then I used the other cord again and it was gone. The usb port in the back of the preamp is a little jiggly so I guess that was the culprit. But with a new cord, that fixed the problem. I dont know what to do about the jiggly port but if the problem comes back I'll post again. Thank you guys for all your help.
