I have recently started a black metal project. I have about four songs so far, have finished one (though I'm going to redo it soon too) and have another that is totally finished except for vocals and bass.

www.soundclick.com/frostmourne

Give me opinions and sorry if you don't like the songs or black metal as a style.

I don't like the keyboard through the whole thing. Ugh! I'm really getting some clipping. And the guitar panned to the left through the whole song I didn't care for either. Try to center it alittle. If theres only one. It might sound better if you did the keyboard L/R, guitar Center.

I don't know how your recording this. But your recording it to hot(clipping).

Dude never be sorry for what music you play! If they don't like it FUCK EM'. Black metal is the most talented, feeling flowing types of music out there.

I don't know if your a Mayhem fan but, Attila just re-joined the band. He's the singer from De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. The next album is going to be fuckin' killer.

Jolly good morning to livilinic...

Holy clipping-dog-shit-taco! Turn that shit down! Wow, you are just steady clipping throughout... Did you see a red light blinking?

What are you recording through? Please list your setup. This would be tolerable if EVERYTHING wasn't clipping constantly.

2nd song, same story. Constant clipping.
Shame..., I'd like to be able to tolerate listening to this...

Please list your setup, so it can be determined how best you will know when you are clipping. I'd like to hear this re-tracked...

Best of Luck...

Who the FUCK is livilinic? DIE DIE DIE!

"Yamaha Pacifica guitar, Hayman 40 40 bass, Behringer V-amp 2, Yamaha keyboard, Fruity Loops and Adobe Audition software"

This is what he's using. Probally some gain staging problems?

L8er,
livilaNic

I'd hoped that I wouldn't have to venture to guess, but here goes. I've never even seen the software in question, but there are probably 3 colors going on here during tracking. Green/Yellow/Red.

Green=good/okay
yellow=more near to clipping (still "acceptable", not unpleasantly distorted)
red=clipping or near to it (-4dB to 0dB?)

clipping produces horrible distortion, not at all desirable even in black metal.

I think this applies to individual tracks, AND the master channel.

As I said, I had hoped someone more knowledgable than myself would chime in, but being as I've already opened my trap, I'll at least attempt.

Best of luck, and I hope to hear a re-tracked version.

EDIT/PS~ I could not tell how much gain/distortion you were using, but it's always a good rule of thumb to get the sound you want, then cut back on the gain/distortion 25%-50%.

CHEATIN" FOOL!

This guy has his song up at soundclick for a MxMetal contest.

I think he was just here to get us to click and give him points.

Or w/e I dunno how the fuck it goes about doing it.

Anyway I just wanted to point this out to "ALL".

Cheaters never win,

The contest has nothing to do with clicks actually. It's a contest on another forum where lots of different members submit a song of a certain style and the forum's members vote for their favourite song. Thanks for all of the help so far.

Oops, just to clarify, I've found it useful to cut back gain/distortion AT LEAST 25%-50%, but I haven't done anything approaching black metal for quite some time...

I think it's pretty cool. But yeah the fucking clipping is very bad and I also agree with the guitar panned left throughout the whole song is annoying. Also, come up with song titles that don't have frost in the name lol.

LOL sorry I just saw this thread again and I listened to that first song. A new direction for frostmourne. LOL this has to be a joke.

typo

Blood Spatters,
Thin acoustics with drums & Gollum compaining about the lack of fish.
Didn't sound death like - in fact the vocal sounds like that exorcist bit from Tubular Bells.
It this what was intended?
Battle of the Frost,
Meddle FX or Sabbs FX (Vol 4) style intro then a pause then thin speed metal with the Satanic verses recited in Nepalese?
Where's the bass, what about some soundstage panning & presence?
Sorry, I can't offer anything for this - perhaps my neck needs realignment. It just doesn't sound a) finished b)thought through & c) serious.
Oh, the guitar sounds weren't generic - I can offer that.
Cheers

Okay....this is an old ass thread, and if that dude is serious I will smack my mother in the face. IN THE FACE I TELL YOU!

That first tune is just a classic!
