my band's website

Wow! A music site where the audio actually plays and downloads quickly! And you don't have to go to thegreatesthitsofguysmakingsoundsinthebasement/artists/genre/alternativeProgressiveNewWave/mybandname/songs.html

I agree the equipment page is questionable. On the one hand it's really interesting to see if you are a musician. On the other, it's not something you would typically see on the site of an established band or a group that's trying to push a particular image.

The front page is also a little confusing. At first glance it looks like the site for a recording label offering several bands including Escape Velocity. You probably need to indicate that the Chaos Theory CD is actually another Escape Velocity release. It looks like another band. And from reading your other materials, it looks like someone else (the DJ in Richmond?) was also mixed up. The other thing about the front page is that the "buy" buttons are a little too up front. For me at least, it takes away from the artistic appeal of the web page. I'm sure it helps for people who just want to buy a CD, but it comes across as somewhat too commercial.

I might also re-scan the news clippings. It's no big deal but the contrast is a little low. Oh, you might also airbrush the drummer's porkpie hat. Did he every play with Devo?

airbrushing - done... I might want a second opinion on everything else. ;)

are you saying I should remove the button OR explain why with a little "why?" link next to it?

well, I guess I'll just remove everything except the menu

It would be a nice feature if the mp3's opened in another window so you could browse & listen at the same time.

*edit* I just realized I could do that on my own. Sorry for the n00bishness ;)

I know you typically despise the use of flash, but a ton of people think it looks better. Remember, the site is NOT for you, but for your audience. Here's a suggestion: you said that you could use flash, right? So why not make the index page a choice for the user. Flash or non-Flash. That way, people who are on older computers, their PDAs, whatever, have access to a simple site, and those who like Flash can use it. Now everyone's happy!

I've always thought that using a regular font for nav links is kind of lame and amateur-ish. Maybe spice it up with nicer fonts rendered into pics at least. You're already making the assumption the person can use frames and graphics, so a graphic link wouldn't be out of the question. I do like the colors and continuity of the site, but as previously said, it doesn't match the music. If you want to keep the blue scheme, try going for a darker blue maybe, and "dirty" fonts. When I first saw your site, I was expecting smooth jazz, not raw alternative. Some food for thought (thought for food?)

You guys need to work on your look if you want anything to come of the band. Just being honest. I expected the site to look like poo but it's simple and to the point.
