For those who are interested, check out my bands 4 song demo at :

We are a progressive rock band based north of pittsburgh PA.

Here's some information on how the demo was produced.

The first thing we did was play all the songs with a click except for Life of Mine and recorded using the RCA out on the mixing console straight into my DAW. The drums were recorded first in the basement of my old house with no acoustical treatment except for the blankets we hung from the ceiling. The Bass tracks were recorded next all DI from the Ampeg amps' out. The guitar tracks were next and are doubled on all the songs. A shure SM-57 and a cheap Audio-Technica kick drum mic was used to record the guitar. Next was the vocals which we recorded using the SM-57 through the mixing consoles preamp. All the tracks were recorded in Wavelab 3 and loaded into FruityLoops 4 which I used to mix the songs.
Keep in mind while listening that this is not a professionally produced demo. I am not a professional engineer - I do not have professional equipment - it was recorded in a basement with no acoustical treatment of any kind - no one in the band is a professional musician.

Everyone deserves a review

Well, I can't let this fall off the first page without any response. I listened to "Naked Night" and "Escape." I am listening at work on earbuds, so I will refrain from making any specific comments on the mix. In general, it sounds like a fairly even mix. Each instrument seems to have a place. The songs are o.k. Pretty standard jam-band fare, nothing special. I wouldn't call them "progressive" by any stretch, though.

My main issue with this revolves around the vocals. Both lead and background vocals have some serious pitch problems. They really kill the songs for me. If you can tighten up the singing, you might have something to build upon.

I would agree with Scrubs on the vocal tracking. There is definitely something in your work though. The feel of Jones'ing in the Fast Lane reminds me a little of vintage Police.

The mix is pretty good, considering you are not using high-end gear. The end of Fast Lane ends rather abruptly - could be due to truncating it in Fruityloops or something. When ending a tune abruptly, let the guitar tone fade out before trunc'ing.

Cheers.
