My bands DEMO

Well, this kind of music is totally not my style, however it is fun to play. I play drums and sing occasionally in a hardcore/screamo/metal band. We just got done recording a demo in the practice shed we have downtown (horrible conditions) however I think the results were pretty damn good considering. Just let me know what you guys think. Listen to Picture Perfect Sunset first, it's the best song we've got so far (which probly isnt saying much, LOL).

NOTE: The vocal at the very beginning of picture perfect sunset (the whispered/sang part) is NOT me, haha. Thats my singer. The singer does all the screaming really, and I do al lthe real singing.

The mix is real good. But I can hear that strange room sound in the snare. Not bad, just strange.

I'm not digging the overheads or high hat--it sounds gated and almost out of phase--like the compressor was set really bad on it.

In general I get the impression that someone is new to compression, because the primary 'bad' I hear tends to relate to compression on the instruments. Chill out with that stuff.

God the overheads sound bad.

I could do with a little more punch on the kick, and more attack/brightness on the snare.

Honestly I'd remix this because I can hear a great track trying to get out, but the mix/master is just bad.

Cloneboy, that is bad MP3 compression on the high end. When an MP3 is compressed at 128k (streaming) then the high end goes to pot and sounds really phasey and jingeley like sleigh bells. Also the low ends volume starts to disappear also.

The mix is cool. Love the scream that leads into the heaviness, but not too into that music.

Haha, well to Clone, the room sucked we recorded in and the room i mixed in sucked even worse. Also, given the fact I'm mixing through a friggin Peavey CS-400 power amp (yyeeee-uucck) the whole dynamic range is a bit...well, shit. lol. Try downloading the mp3s and checking them out. I will admit that the mixes are a tad bit thin because of the mixing environment but hey I did what I could do with what I had. Oh well, it is just a DEMO. Anyways, thanks for the feedback it's greatly appreciated. Also, the overheads/hi hats weren't gated. The toms/snare/kick was gated but I NEVER gate OH or HH. No compression there either. It's gotta be the streaming.

I'm not fond of the mix, but I like the music. You guys remind me a bit of Racebannon somehow. But I can hear the heavy PTW influence (unfortunately it's Tear From the Red-ish and not OOD. That's okay though). Not bad, not bad at all. The breakdown is realllyyyyy weak (I'm a brutal dancer, so I have high expectations when it comes to breakdowns). The guitars definitely need to be beefed up. The singing at the beginning of Picture Perfect Sunset should be taken out, or quieted down. It really detracts. I think the other song is a lot better than this one. It just gives a lot more powerful performance, in my opinion. Good stuff, nonetheless.

Also, I see that you guys are in Columbia, SC. If you ever need a show in North Carolina (Charlotte), I'll do my best to hook you up. If you're looking for a similarly styled band to play a few shows with, my old band is reforming (I think). Well honestly I think the guitars sucked for this genre on the recording, but I had to use what was available and the only thing I had that sounded decent at the time was (yes I'm going to say it) a POD. I used my POD on a Soldano SLO setting. I would have used the dual rec. emulation but the low end is rediculous to get rid of. It's all flub. lol. Well thanks for the input fellas.

I liked the guitar work, drums could use some mixing. The singer sucks.....sometimes less is more.

On my system it sounds like it could use a whole lot more bass. Everything else sounds pretty good, but I'm really missing a lot of low end that just seesmt to not be there... sounds like it would really beef up a lot from some more power from the bass.

matta, the bass is indeed a bit thin due to where i had to mix this thing. also keep in mind this was recorded in an 8x10 tin metal/cinder block self storage shed. lol. we mixed it at the singers house with no acoustic treatments and a bad hangover. came out pretty damn good though considering. now im getting ready to record burns out bright's (local touring band) full length album for the label they're on. pretty cool stuff. lol.
