Hope you guys don't mind but I think I'm just going to make this my personal Questionnaire instead of flooding the forum with lots of new threads.

The more time I have the more I'm going to question myself on what I should get(I guess it doesn't hurt to know exactly what I'm getting) and the best route to take(knowing I'm sure most will take me where I need to go)

I'm debating now if I should not get the SE2200a..for reasons stated in previous post. I was thinking I could save a little money and get the MXL V67G and a Shure 57 or small condensor mic. This would also let me reallocate some money to room treatment(which I'm sure is a must for the room I'll be in) Roughly $50-100 dollars

I know this is all personal preference in the end.. I just value your opinion, Stranger I have never met and put all the faith in the world in.

Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi...you're my only hope.

Just posting my electric guitar and amp type. ^_^ Both were given to me about 5 years ago and have been in storage for most part

Ibanez GIO GAX70

My amp is a Crate GX65av(Is there a difference in Anniversary models and the regular?)

do not buy the shure 57,,,it is a dynamic mic,,,,it really depends on your style of music,,,people say "well micheal jackson recorded thriller on a shure 57,,,,they forget that that micheal jackson,,they are in a million dollar epic studio,,,and quincy jones is making the track,,,,he could have used a broom stick to record it still would have come out,,,i rap so i like the mxl,,,this is my 2nd,,,which is a 3000i,,,it captures low tones well,,,thats why i like them,,,its sound is thick,,if i was a singer,,,i would not use an mxl,,,i would go with the se,,,there are others akg's are really bright and clear check out those,,,,,and if your trying to save mony,,,buy good used stuff,,,search,,,ive bought used stuff from guitar center,,,and it still works,,

Michael,,,,Jackson,,,,did not use,,,,a 57,,,,,on that album,,,,he used,,,,an,,,SM7 B.

There is nothing wrong with an SM57, everyone should have 1 or 2 in their hardware list. $100 will not get you much in the way of room treatment, maybe a couple of small corner bass traps. I'd advise you to go slow, not buy the lowest quality stuff to start with in order to get *everything*.

I think you're "over thinking" it here. The most important thing for you just now is to take the plunge and start doing some recordings. You'll learn more in your first few mixes than in weeks of questions even on a forum as good as this one.

Regarding microphones, get the best you can with or without room treatment. I use good quality LDC mics in untreated rooms all the time--including the SE2200A which is a favourite of mine. I play with positioning and use "soft things" like blankets and duvets to kill the worst bits. I'd rather have a mic that I like the sound of in a less than perfect room than use a less than perfect mic in an attempt to compensate for the room. If the mic masks room problems it's doing the same to the sounds you want to record.

But, anyhow, I think it's time for you to jump in at the deep end and start recording--and having fun rather than worrying about the details!

I must confess, I have what seems to be an unalterable intrinsic bias towards this viewpoint.

Thank you guys for all the encouraging words. I over think any decision in life... :( Sometimes I can't make up my mind in the drive through if I want 2 mcdoubles or 20 piece mcnugget. ^_^ Cheers to my musical mentors! Let's go diving!

I need a medium french fry as well.. It all starts piling on each other. Then I'm paying 7 dollars at mickie dees for my stomach. Then I eat all of it and feel like I hate myself cause I'm so full.

Just one last note of changes to my original list... I'm going to get the Focusrite 8i6 instead of Fast Track Pro. For the reasons of the preamps and if I decide to start recording a drum kit I want the versitility. OK, I am done making changes. No more! No reading review. The price is set and I have a dream. If I try to change my mind again don't let me. ^_^

"IT'S SO FLUFFY!", Can you name what movie that's from?? (Those with kids might have a better advantage.) Just some random trivia.

Agnes in "Despicable Me". (Despite being a grumpy old retired git, we have a six year old....accidents happen!)

HAHA yes! I have a 9 month old little girl and a 3 year old boy with an attitude problem! He gets it from his mother. lol! But we love that movie. Just a thought. ^_^

lol...our family is much more convoluted. We have a six year old...plus two grandchildren, 3 and 4.

The alert amongst you will realise this makes our six year old an uncle already....

wooooow. Thats crazy. Damn Bobbsy.... You go you sly dog :-D

$400 recording studio

Long Story Short: Save your money the next time you’re thinking about heading out to a recording studio and start investing in yourself. Not only is a home studio in reach, it also allows artists to take control of their music (financially & creatively).

check out themusicmanufacturer.com for more!

An astute piece of insight to share...........with a forum dedicated to home recording !

Lol.. ^_^ Now that's funny. The savings plan is in action. I can't wait to flood these boards with lots more questions when I finally get the equipment. But the easiest part is done I suppose. Or the hardest, depending on which way you look at it.
