Im going through atlanta next weekend and have to pass right by guitar center,so I thought I would stop in and get some mics.
(selection is shit here in montgomery)
Does anyone know what I can expect to pay at g.c. for a pair of
mxl603s?Do they offer them in matched pairs?

I don't think GC does MXL. They have Oktavas though.

Yeah, I don't think they sell the Marshalls at GC. But the Oktava MC012 is an excellent mic--some think better than the 603. Another bonus of the MC012 is it comes with 10dB pad and you can order omni caps later from the Sound Room, which makes the MC012 very versatile.

Just be sure you check out six or eight of them in the back room. Check the caps to make sure the threads are all good on both the cardioid cap and the 10dB pad. Mix and match until you get two complete mics that sound almost identical (use your voice and jingle some keys) and be sure all the pieces fit together well (QC is an issue with GC Oktavas).

I only paid $61 for my MC012 at GC (although they retail for $99). So, tell them you have exactly $130 or $140 (whichever you feel comfortable with) to spend for two mics (not a penny more) and you should be able to walk out the door for that much.

A great deal! They retail for way more than $99. That's GC regular "advertised" price. Which GC store was that and when did you buy it? Maybe I should go back and harass them about it! They’re running a special this month for $25 off $99.99, but $61??!! Sheese! That’s great!
