Apparently I struck another nerve-- sorry dude.
Try this-- look in a mirror and say "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darnit, people like me"

I'm completely comfortable with life, and I'm cool with calling things out the way I see them. You seem to be the one who's panties are getting somewhat in a wad over some of this stuff. Which is kind of entertaining, I suppose. :D

Keep using that "panties in a wad/bunch" line-- never gets old dude :). Classic.
Thanks for letting everyone know your comfort level with life.

My experience with the V67g was that it looks better than it sounds. At first I was pleased with it, thinking it was indeed reminiscent of an old Neumann sound - for a fraction of the cost. After awhile my opinion changed to thinking it sounded grainy with a hyped top end and cloudy lows... a really weird combination to eq. I've been spending time retracking with different mics rather than settle for it.

I ended up gifting it to a buddy who was putting together a small studio in his basement. He had a Rode NT1a and a few dynamics to play around with. The V67g gave him another flavor and he's happy with it.

Of course this is just my homebaked experience. No doubt a more experienced engineer could do better with the V67g than myownself. I know Harvey has done some nice work with it so you gotta respect that.

It didn't seem like there was much, if any, effort made to ensure any level of consistency between takes ... or that the 'between take' variables were accounted for.

Yeah, too bad they got all that gear in one place, went through all that effort, and then dropped the ball on the performance continuity aspect. Of all the gear shootouts I've listened to, including all the ones done by complete amatures, the listening sessions is the worst in this regard by a country mile.

I own the V67g and that mic can sound out of this world plugged into the right preamp .

I went to a studio near me a short while back wanting to try some of his mics , looking to buy somthing new , the guy that was working with me there asked me to bring in my mics and he was going to show me somthing Iv never heard , he plugged my mics ( At4040 , V67g , SM58bata , CAD CM17 , AKG 770 ) into a couple of different Mic Preamps , one of them was more in my price range it was the UA Solo , WOW , Unbeleivable . He basicly proved to me A mic is only as good as the preamp its pluged into . A good preamp can Make a shure SM58 sound like it was a Numan .

Um, no, it'll sound like a 58 plugged into a really good preamp.

ive had a v67 and a v67g and they both sound fizzy to me

extra jizz in the upper-midrange

my v63m sounds much fuller and more natural

all those are mxl brand mics of course

i say get 3 mics and try them out

it seems silly to trust online sample recordings

I'd have to agree with the 67's sounding fizzy. I did a side by side with mine and my 990 and I honestly loved the 990 a lot more for my voice(sibilant tenor).

I guess I got one of the good ones, v67g wise. I plug it into my buzz ma-2.2 and it actually sounds pretty good / not at all grainy.

I think there's the hit or miss combination of 1) quality at the factory, 2) preamp that works well with the mic.

No, it's more of a matter of my voice vs. yours. I have plenty of vocalists that sound fantastic through the v67g, but I personally sounded much better through the 990. I'm a sibilant tenor and I think maybe the smaller diaphragm and different voicing just works for me.
