Nice links Gidge.
I guess if someone wanted to go to the trouble they could, but by the time you bought the materials, the paint, and put in your time, is it really worth it to save 40 bucks for something that looks as shabby and cheesy as that?
I'd rather spend the 50 bucks, have something I know is going to work, and looks nice as well. But thats just me.

I myself have a real shockmount (somewhat) - came with the Marshall MXLv67.....

now would i go thru the trouble of making one..im not sure.....would someone out there do it....probably yes...so those links i posted were not for you or me, they were for someone who thinks saving $20 is a world of difference.....
