Does anyone have an opinion as to which has a better sound quality of these two Mics? I am thinking about picking buying one. I am looking for an affordable all purpose condensor for a home studio.

Thanks,
YZL

I had a good chance to compare them pretty extensively and I found them very similar in sound. The C1 had a slight midrange scoop (around 600 Hz) which might be good for some voices and not so good for others.

I liked the build quality of the C1 better, but the V67G had a very slight sonic advantage. Not much, though. I'd be happy with either mic and I wouldn't say one is "better" than the other - just slightly different.

The C1 is more money, but it now has a bass rolloff switch, a 10 dB pad, and a nice case.

It's really six of one, half a dozen of the other. Buy whichever turns you on - you'll be happy with either mic.

You are early

Is the Mars version of that mic better with the fancy wiring?

I love it Harvey, a very thorough honest evaluation keep up the good work...

Sorry, I don't know anything about the Mars version.

See, you've got to love an honest answer. This man knows the ins/outs of just about every mic that hit this planet but yet can admit when he has not evaluated a certain product.Keep the facts coming Harvey...

I thought all of them have the Mogami wiring (v67m and G)?? Thats what it said on the website I think. I am getting a v93 so I am not worried :)

Hey Harvey...would you pick the 2003 over the v67?? I am just curious. I read your review and you were much more excited about the v67 it seemed. Was that just because of the price to performance value, or because you actually thought it had a warmer or more colorful sound?

The V67G had that big "larger than life" sound that I associate with some of the best old German mics. It was also an amazing value.

Harley96, I actually went into a lot more detail in another thread about the C1 versus the V67G:

https://homerecording.com/bbs//showthread.php?s=&threadid=28989

It created a heated discussion that got off topic fast and got pretty furious.

Harvey, thanks for the link I'm always looking for more knowledge.Have you had the opportunity to demo the rode ntk?
If so, I'd like to hear your findings...:D

with the $100 price difference between the v67 and the C1, the bass rolloff and the pad arent enuff for ME....

do youeself a favor an audition them both and make a choice based on your ears...or play eenie meenie miney mo....

either way, you will get a fine mic at a decent price.....

Thats more like 30.00 and it is worth it to get the better mic. But if the v67 is going for only 75.00 Ill buy one today.

"Better" is really the wrong word to use when comparing these two mics. Which is "better" will depend on the particular vocalist that happens to be in front of the mic. The V67G will be "better" for some singers, the C1 will be "better" for others, and sometimes, neither one will work as well as an old Beyer Soundstar MKII - an old inexpensive dynamic mic.

The V67G and the C1 are basically good value "workhorse" mics; you'll find a lot of uses around any studio for them, but one won't always be "better" than the other for every vocalist. It depends.

Neither one sounds as gorgeous as a Neumann U67 with a 0.6 micron Stephen Paul mod, but sometimes a good dynamic mic will beat the Neumann U67 for a particular song, or on a particular singer.

To paraphrase an old friend, "If you can't have the mics you love, love the mics you have".

C1 - $229
v67 - $129

and with either, you are getting a nice mic at a great price.....

where can u get the V67 fer 129??? If you can, I have a bone to pick with Mars

the $129 Mars price was a recent drop, and remember itdoes not include a shockmiunt.....

The optional spider mount lists for 50 bucks but the salesman sold it to me for $25 with the purchase of the mic.

Does Alan have any close out C-1's left for $179? That was with shipping too. Got my second C-1 that way, and I'm happy with them, though the Marshall looks good too.

Can't go wrong either way.
