Hello

I've been recording with my good old MXL 006 USB for years now and sometimes I think that maybe a replacement is worth the money. I think I'm looking for a USB mic again, because I've got a Line 6 HD Pod Desktop, but the XLR plugin is not Phantom Powered, so I do not think it's a good idea to buy a mic for that one.

For example, I was looking at the Shure PG 27 USB mic for €187.-. I've got a budget for around €200, so all suggestions are welcome. But my real question is: is a microphone like the Shure PG 27 really worth the money when you compare it to the MXL 006? I bought the MXL 006 8 years ago for like €80,-. The reason I'm looking for a new one is that I ask myself if the mics from today are much better for a price around €200. I've worked a few times with real high end microphones and when I compared the recordings with my MXL, it wasn't that big of a difference in quality.

I'm not sure what today's development of microphones bring in quality.
So will it be worth the money or should I just continue to work with my old MXL?

To get to know the quality of the MXL 006 mic, I've uploaded a recent song of mine which is recorded with the MXL 006 USB (the vocals and the acoustic guitar at least). The electric guitar etc. is recorded digital. You can find it in the attachments.

What are you recording? You'd likely get a better overall sound from using a decent dynamic mic plugged into the Pod than a USB mic.

As you can hear in the attachment, I use it mostly for vocals and sometimes for acoustic guitar, but it's not that great with a acoustic guitar. What kind of dynamic mic do you recommend with a budget of 200?
