I'm looking at a "pro pack" deal with a MXL 603 and a 2001, plus cable, case, etc... for $179. I want a set up to record my vocals and acoustic guitar... thats all. Thinking the small dia. would be good for the acoustic and the large for vocals.... but I'm not real up on this... opinions? Better options?

I'm recording on my pc by the way, with ntracks through a SB Audigy.... I'll need preamps too...

Thanks

Most of what you'll hear will be

603S: GOOD.
2001: BAD

Now the 603S and the V67, that might be worth the extra $s/£s/€s.

OK.... I'll take a look at the V67 too then.... what about preamps? I've had it suggested that I get an Audio Buddy.... and the omni studio.... comments or other suggestions?
Thanks

That's funny because I like the 2001.

I use the 603's for overheads on my kit and I love them.
I was using a set of SM81's, and they were...I don't know, they just seemed a bit more brittle to me. When I switched to the 603's, they worked well as overheads - so that's where they went permanently.

I bought a set of 603's, plus the 2001+603 package from 8th. Street Music.

I like the 2001 for micing bass amps, and for certain vocals.

my gawd!!...there IS another person around here who likes theirs too!! I can't believe we are the only two, however:eek: I get good mileage out of mine, and I am waiting for someone to just unload theirs for pennies at some point, because they jumped on the bandwagon and think their 2001 sucks like everyone else.

Maybe if you record into the front side of the mic!!

the off axis sound IS pretty horrible;)

Its not bad on some voices, heck mine sounds good for some things, not so good for others.
