have anyone heard the mxl 2003, is it good for guitar cabs and/or male vocals?

The search function is the best for vocals, guitars, and drums. Period. :)

The 2003 has a reputation for being very bright and very sensitive. I have a pair (actually V93M versions) that I use for XY stereo micing of small ensembles with fair success becasue of the broad flat response. I also use mine for voiceovers, but there are others that I would pick first. So no, it would not jump to mind as a male vocal an guitar cab mic.

Likin' the 2003

I graduated from the SM58 to the MXL 2003 a couple years ago, based on reviews I'd read. Since then, I've also recorded my vocals through an AKG 414 (I think), and a "thousand-dollar" Neumann. I prefer the sound of the 2003, with the 10dB pad. Using good mic technique, I can belt it out, or get up close and growl. I guess it comes down to what works best for your particular voice. More expensive doesn't always mean it'll do a better job.
