Have you guys got a pic or link to this instrument. I don't get too many journals these days. I used to get them all but never had time to read them.

Are these frets just ground flat? or something other??

They're just ground flat. The article was about instuments that had been modified in some way - hence the octave mando, harp guitar. This one was a standard Martin dread that a new nut/saddle had been installed on, so that it could be played across the lap, Hawaiian style.

I think the idea was to make it closer to an 0-18k, which had a straight saddle and flush frets.
