must my room be completely dead?

UPDATE AGAIN: ok i just ordered a whole bunch of mineral wool, so i'm hoping it will be good. i got it from SPI but unfortunately they said it will take about 2 weeks for them to order it. i got 2 bundles of 8 sheets each of the 2"x2'x4' 4lb mineral wool, and 2 bundles of 4 sheets each of 4"x2'x4' 6lb mineral wool. the grand total being around $160. not too bad right? i think i should be able to treat the whole room with this stuff. I found some fabric for cheap also to cover the stuff with, but once i finish buying all the materials, i'll post up my grand total. thanks guys!
 
seems a little expensive . I found a place here in cinci ohio that sells the 4" for 19.00 $ for 4 2'x4'x4" sheets.
 
unfortunately, i live pretty far from cinci... :(
that sounds like a great price though.


OK tonight my cousin and i stripped out the old carpet, ate pizza, drank some beer, removed the tacks strips, drank some beer, took a break, swept up the floor and threw away all the tack strips and extra shit, sealed up a floor vent, and then measured and chalked the room to find the center point. then we started laying out the pieces of flooring to make sure everything was even on both sides, and it was good to within about 1/8th of an inch, sweet! then we marked the pieces for the border, and started cutting a few of em, then it got kind of late. we were working pretty slowly today because it was 106 fuckin degrees outside so yeah, not too pleasant, but tomorrow we should be able to finish up the floors.

against the advice i received on here, we went with the glue-down parquet floor. since my cousin is a professional tile guy, he said he would be able to work with that stuff very easily since its a similar process. here's some pics:

well we didnt drink em all today, we had to save a few in the fridge for tomorrow haha. oh the cheapness of Bud Light... :p

Yea that mineral wool that you got will work well. Make sure to get some masks and goggles before you even start working with it!! That stuff will f you up.

Have you decided on a room layout yet? That one from PTownkid seemed to be the best bet for sound quality. When your mixing you can pull the desk out as shown, but when your tracking you can push it back up against the wall.
 
yeah i think im gonna go with a similar arrangement, my desk actually has casters on the bottom so it would be easy to move it around. more work planned for later today, so i'll post a couple new pics. oh and thanks everyone for the responses!
 
OK, a big thanks to everyone who helped me out in this thread, but i think i'm gonna go ahead and start a new one just to outline the progress of my studio building adventure. i think my questions in this thread have been answered so thanks again to all you folks! you've all been a great help.
