A few years ago i recorded a lot of music/demos on a Tascam 464. Since then i have regrettably sold the machine and am now kicking myself for doing so because i now have no way of playing back the original tapes. Does anyone know if there are any alternate 4-track models that will playback tapes made on a 464? I would simply buy another 464, but for some reason they're almost impossible to come across. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any Tascam 4 track other than the original 144 (and I think the MPF... MFP... PFM... oh sod it, the small cheap one) should be able to play back your tapes.

Yamaha portastudios also use the same noise reduction system, so they might be able to as well.

OK. Thanks for the response. There's currently a lot of 424's for sale on ebay. Seeing as the 424 is almost identical in appearence to the 464 would i be right in guessing that these two models are essentially the same on the inside?

Yeah, the tascam 424 is perfect for the job, especially cos it has 4 seperate outputs for each track. I have a 424 and it plays tapes I recorded on a 464 years ago no problem. Dont let anyone tell you that tape doesnt last either- some tapes I recorded over 15 years ago sound fine, to my ears anyway, but I wish I hadnt done so much bouncing tracks back then tho. good luck
