hi, im not so n00b at recording, but quite n00b when it comes to equipment, im usually a digital sorta person so physical equipment is limited for me, anyway heres my question:

i use sonar 4 producer edition and am quite comfortable with it, im noticing that i can switch where my recording input is coming from, mine usually says sound card stereo input because im cheap. anywho. i need to find out if there are any usb devices or devices that connect to a pci card that i can input multiple sound sources and have them appear on their respective tracks in sonar. i usually use my little mixer (12 input) but that only mixes to stereo, i need something where i can put multiple inputs in and have them each appear on separate tracks on the computer DAW.

for example, if i was recording a drum kit, i would like each mic to go into its own separate track instead of being mixed into 1 track. i would normally mix to 1 track while recording but id like something where i can change each component later.

thanks in advanced

So you need a soundcard with multiple inputs? Look at products from Tascam, M-Audio, Presonus etc

yeah a sound card with multiple inputs would be good, but preferably something USB or external so the D/A conversions can be done far away from my noisy motherboard. also, id like the unit/ each unit to have the XLR inputs. anything fairly cheap you guys can suggest?

id also accept multiple devices (USB) if i can stack such objects on top of each other. and theres the possibilty of buying more to stack on. a sound card with multiple inputs sounds pretty good to me, is there anything you guys know of thats not too expensive and gives a good sound. if theres an absolute must for example something thats an industry standard, im willing to go the extra miles for it too.

To my knowledge, the only external input devices, that can "stack" devices, are the Inspire 1394 and Firebox, both from Presonus. They are both, however, Firewire, not USB. There are several USB external devices, but I don't know of any that can be "stacked". With just about any of the external devices... USB, or Firewire, or PCI, all of their inputs will show up in your Sonar as separate inputs.
