Does anyone know if such a beast exists? Basically, a plug-in that would show you a spectral/spectrum analysis of a mix, but break it up via tracks. I know you can get an analysis of the entire mix combined by sticking a vst plug-in analyzer out of the mains to see what's going on, but it doesn't differentiate between what track is occupying what in the spectral field. You'd have to mute each track and then solo individual tracks one at a time to see where they reside, but you still couldn't see where they reside in relation to one another. If this is all too confusing, take a look at this:

That program breaks each track up visually, but only shows you volume and panning parameters - I want a spectral analysis :] That way I can "see" how much of the bass is in the same territory as the drums, or the vocals in the same territory as the guitars etc.

Am I wishing for something not yet in existence?

It's nonexisting, sorry. You cannot do this in Sonar. The tracks are mixed before they hit the FX-field in the VMain.

I can't think of a program I've used which can do this...

Well, I guess if I want to see multiple tracks and where they are, I can plug in an analyzer in each track and then have multiple windows open at once. Someone needs to write a plug-in that can be placed into each track, but have the output sent to one window which makes the view isometric. Maybe someday...

I've been waiting for something like this along time, and just not for spectrum analyzer. A surround-plugin would be great...

Or just native surround in Sonar... ;)

This would be awesome if you could do it... I have a pretty shitty vst analyzer that I insert in each track alongside an equalizer and try to do it two at a time so that I can have the 4 windows open at the same time. I start with the low end kick drum and bass guitar, then move to the drum overheads, then the rhythms guitars finally the lead guitar and any other keyboards... but I find this a little frustrating and time consuming... it would be awesome if Sonar 3.0 had an "EQ view" kind of like the console view, so that you could open that and see an equalizer (maybe 7 band or 10 band?!) plus a (pre and post) spectrum analyzer for each track as well as one for the whole mix!!!!!!!!! That would be SOOOOOO helpful!!!!! And while they're at it, wouldn't it be cool to be able to apply a grid to the track view so that fine note editing would become easier??!!! I mean, for instance, if I have to cut and move a kick drum hit to the third sixteenth note of any given beat, I have to zoom in quite some in order to split precisely where I want to do it, then I have to place the (BTW, what do you call the vertical line that tells you where you're at???) at the beat plus 720 ticks and then slide, drag or paste there... but a grid with vertical lines would make my life SO MUCH EASIER!!!!!!!! Just my $0.02
