On Cool Edit Pro everytime I hit the R button then hit record the feed is mono (I'm not complaining) but has a lot of static and sounds bad. What's up with that? I just read in the newbies forum that some Soundblaster cards will record and playback at the same time (which I can do) but at reduced sample rate. Is that it? I have some cheap sound card, it's uh: Creative Soundblaster PCI128 and I've been seeing this Wave Mapper thing on my computer... my dad might of put it in. I haven't used my mixer yet to try, 'cause I haven't had it before, so it might just be me. But can someone just throw something at me?
 
the fact that it's mono could be because you actually used the microfone input of the soundblaster, which is mono and has a f_cked up 'pre-amp'.
for the quality; this can be because of loads of different reasons.
-do you hear it bad only when monitoring? this can be because of a feedback-kinda thing somewhere.
-when recording in edit view, got still the same problem? if not, take a look at the multitrack settings.
-else; what are your settings in windows mixer? it can be set as 'radio quality', put it at 'cd quality'..

if this doesn't work, tell me.

Help me out a bit here. What is the "feed?" Are you talking about what you're hearing in real time as you play/record? If so, then F_cksia might be right...or it could just be that your input level is way too hot (which is what it sounds like if it's distorting that badly), or it could be both. It's probably b/c you don't have your Recording Properties (in Windows) set low enough. For example, if you're using the "line in" input on your soundcard, then the "line in" volume slider in Windows might just be up too loud. Try turning that slider down and see if it helps.

BTW - Your dad didn't put the "wavemapper" thing on there; it came with your soundcard...and your soundcard should be fine for what you're trying to do.

No, I'm using the line in. I'm not sure what the monitoring quality sounds like, can't remember (I'm not on the actual computer right now) When I record in the edit view it sounds normal and records in stereo. I'll double check my multitrack settings ('cause edit view records in stereo as well...) and fiddle with the Windows some more. I've noticed it's louder, so maybe it's distorting it, I'll try when I can get on there and see what happens. Thanks guys.

I've checked out my dad's computer (we have 3 computers, heh) and the multitracking is fine on there. I guess it's just my other computer, I can't get on it right now, 'cause it's being used.
 
If you're using a microphone and it sounds bad, check out your microphone recording/playback in the audio properties, you may have boost enabled.
