Hi guys ..

I'm having some soundfont troubles here ...
I'm using LiveSynth Pro to play my sf2 files
but for some reason I cant assign different soundfonts to several banks and use them

lets say I got a drumtrack..
I assign an audiotrack with LSP to it and
in the midi track I choose the bank I need

works like a charm
but If I open LSP again
to use a seperate percussion soundfont
and use another midi track (and choose the percussionbank)
the darn thing simply plays the drum soundfont instead of the one I wanted to use ....

I am also having troubles playing some lm4 drumsample's (livesynth is not able to play lm4 files)
I was wondering if you guys might recommend me a good softsynth that CAN play lm4 files
thanx in advance

And you have selected the correct Channel?

And I think VSampler can play lm4 files.

I'll make sure I include a screeny next time ...

but i had one audio channel for the livesynth pro plugin
and I assigned several soundfonts to different banks
then in the respective midi tracks I selected the plugin as the source? and chose the bank I needed to play the sample
and for some reason he allways takes the same sample
for both tracks ...

I don't even have sonar, but you need to assign different channel for each MIDI track (not audio track likeyou mentioned above). thisis for example: midi track1 using midi channel 1, midi track 2 using midi channel2, etc. if you use same midi channel, everytrack will sound same voices :)

I dont think you entirely go the picture here clemie

I dont play midi live ...
I program my drumtracks in a piano roll view in sonar

and i dont think you can completely understand if you dont use sonar ...

but thanx for the trouble :)

Ronin,

I'm not a LiveSynthPro user, but it may be that LSP doesn't support multiple instances which may possibly explain why you get the same SF playing as in the first instance. Paul881 uses LSP, so he could probably tell you what's going on here.

As Moskus rightly says, VS3 will play LM4 files.

Maybe you should give VS3 a try, I'm sure it will do precisely what you want.

I have written a tutorial on VS3 and SoundFonts. If you ask Moskus ever so nicely, I'm sure he'll point you to his Sonar FAQ page that icludes the turotial.

You should be able to use as many LSPs as you want and your computer can handle. I'm sure that's not the problem.

And the CakewalkFAQs can be found here.
They will be updated as soon as I get my laptop back from repairs, in 2 or 3 days. :)

thx blues

yes I read ur FAQ .. and tried the vsampler 2.75 in the past
and I even forgot that app played lm4's

but I used the demo version of vsampler ...
and it pretty much had the same problem with multiple soundfonts
only one soundfont was played when using multiple midi tracks

It really sounds like you're confused when it comes to MIDI-Channels. I've never had any problems of getting LSP to play different drum-samples (unless they all have to play on Ch10, but most SFs don't need that).

Ouch, I am sorry, ronin 75:) my english is not that good, and you too :D I didn't understand completely what yousaid :) I thought you hear same voices, then probably the midi channels. Hey, I have not used sonar, but know my friend has it. I readed that if your LSP demo expired you can only play one MB limit soundfont. Off course you know better it :) Once again I appologies if I was wrong :)

You will need to set up 2 different instances of LSP on two different audio tracks. Then put the drum font in instance 1 and the percussion font in instance 2. Go to your midi tracks and point midi 1 to LSP 1, with the drum font. Then point midi 2 to LSP 2 with the percussion track.

I just set this up and it works fine.

Hmmm, not realy necesarry :)

1. Make sure the soundfonts you use are in good quality.
2. Open the LSP, and load f.example : GoldDrums on bank 0 and Latin Hand Percussion on bank 1.
3. Open two MIDI track (one Durms track, another is percussion track).
4. Assign Durms track to channel 1, Percussion track to channel 2
5. Select Durms track to bank 0 - Golddrums and Percussion track to 1 - Latin Hand Percussion
6. Select patch for Durms track to Drumkit Gold M and Percussion track to All The Percussion.
7. Play 'em both...

I tried it while replying, no problem at all... Just make sure the sequence of Channel --> Bank -->Patch selection :)

Hope it helps

ps. Durms is Drums in Porter language :D :D :D

The problem with loading all your sounds into 1 instance of LSP is that if you need to EQ one of the soundfonts, let's say the drums, and not the rest of them i.e. the percussion, bass etc., then your EQ ends up coloring all of the sounds loaded in 1 instance. I tend to use multiple instances as it gives me more control while mixing and allows me to tuck everything into its own sonic space if you will.

If you have the horsepower this is a better method.

I can see this will rapidly become the official designation for those instruments of a percussive nature.

It's a great word. :)

So does this make someone who plays the Durms a durmatologist? :D
