ok, I have about a 250-300$ budget, what is a good pre with more than two channels, I would like tube of course, and I see a bunch on Musiciansfriend, but don't know if those 8 ch. for $200 are good. Thanks

Quite a few around these parts like the M-Audio DMP3 (2 channels, $129-139) or the Studio Projects VTB-1 ($129 for one channel). Lately I've heard a lot about the Rane MSB-1 for ~$149 for 1 channel (I think that's the model number). 8 channels for $200? Don't fool yourself.

Your best bet is to get a budget mixer like a yamaha or mackie. This is the only way you are going to get something with more than 2 pres in that price range that are worth a crap at all. If you spend any money on something under 300 bucks just because it has tubes in it, then you should slap yourself for being a fool.

I second the dmp3 for a decent 2 channel pre, $150.

Yup. Another option might be one of the Soundcraft E-series boards.
