MSH Mics

So I've heard great things about these inexpensive little things. Can anyone give their views on them? What sounds better on acoustic guitar or piano, an msh mic or a 57 for example?

I've just started using them as drum overheads and am happy out with them.. i don;t think SM57 comparison is gonna work out though, totally differnet kettles of fish! MSH1s are omni but 57s cardioid..

People correct me if I'm wrong here! I know ye're not shy!!

The MSH SDCs capture acoustic instruments with great detail and clarity. They're perfect for that, especially in a spaced pair in stereo.

I received my pair yesterday. I bought 2 MSH-1. They are what I expected for the most part. Omni shows how bad my room is much better . I seem to like close miking with the msh1's the most. When I back the MSH-1 more and more yes I get more room sound but it seems to be washed out very much and loses a lot of clarity. I have used them on acoustic guitar but I don't think I would use the pair completely. I would use one msh around the sound hole and probably put another condenser on the 12th fret or something.

Yesterday I miked my acoustic mono. With an audix i5 and mono with the msh-1. I think they are hard to compare because of the room sound the msh compared to the i5. But if I had to say it, I would say that the msh is much more detailed on the acoustic in comparison to the i-5(which is known to be very similar to the 57).

If I recall correctly, I thought you had some sort of ADK. Probably would do pretty well on mono guitar miking? Good Luck

How do the MSH1s compare to the MSH2s?

I just received mine (MSH-1) the other day and I'm not disappointed at all. I haven't had a chance to hook them up down in my studio yet, just the living room with my H4. They aren't the quietest mics (ref CAD M179) but I wouldn't call them noisy. For the money I really don't think you could go wrong. They do a very good job of capturing the sound. Definitely my recommendation for a "budget" mic.

I record mostly acoustic guitar.

I'm really a big fan of my MSH1o. Like everyone has said, it's a totally different beast than that of the SM57. I was on a big "try to simplify my set-up and use a SM57 on everything" kick a few months ago. Needless to say, I finally came to terms that I can't go without using the MSH on acoustic guitar. I even recorded some percussion (floor tom and snare, very Jesus & Mary Chain) with the MSH from far away, and I was surprised at how well it handled it and the clarity it maintained.

I used to....had to sell them to finance the pressing of my album. They were pretty great though!
