Oh, and then you don't have to own Behringer

good enough for me! :D

seriously, these look like a pretty sweet deal. if i had a decent room to use them in, i'd order a pair. as noisy as my room is now, i pick up too much noise with a sm57, and that ain't good.

any cardioids on the drawing board? some day we may be fighting over which is better, earth works or mshilarious. being the cheap bastard that i am, i'll be on the mshilarious side. :D

mshilarious – thank you and congrats on building such a fine mic.

apl –
“how would you compare it to your regular setup?”
I usually use Schoeps mk41s for guitar. Their narrow pattern is handy and they’re very quiet. Comparisons…. The MSH1A also has a very sweet high end, though being an omni it’s got a bigger and more natural sounding low end. I really noticed its transient response – other low cost mic’s I’ve used, even if they can sound good otherwise, tend to have a less smooth transient response than my better mic’s. Not so here. No clankiness, no harsh edge at all, but good detail still. They do have a slightly audible noise floor with a quiet source like this test but to me it’s unobtrusive and an OK trade-off for the mic’s sweet sound.

qbert1 – thanks! There was a 75 ft cable run but I don’t think that would have had an effect on the self-noise. Pretty sure the rest of the chain didn’t add anything.

Nakatira – highly recommended. Appreciate the comments.

Dan Micah, SMC and TravisinFlorida – thanks. The tune is O’Carolan’s Welcome.

Rick Shepherd – they’re made by our very own mshilarious

mshil- you’re gonna sell a lot of these. I also think it’s cool that it fits in an XLR housing.

tarnationsauce2 – I have an ECM8000 pair (one of them is a little hissy) but haven’t done a direct A/B test… just from memory I didn’t think the ECM8000 had as good a sound quality.

Sounds really nice on the computer speakers here at work. Can't wait to hear it at home. I think I'll be buying a pair. Been thinking about it because I need some omnis and the price is good and I like supporting small businesses, especially people who do what they do for the love of it.

Nice choice of music, too. I love O'Carolan (go figure).

Will be ordering a pair probably next week. Can I get those windshields aswell?

My website is up now (props to my homeboyyees in Herndon, VA! I gotta represent  ). See the link below! It is a few bucks cheaper than eBay. eBay's fees are fast approaching punitive  , so I pass my savings on to you!

On the minus side, the Paypal buttons don't handle international shipping too well :( PM or email me for specifics.

wow. once i get a job i'll probably be buying a pair. Those sound really nice, especially for the money. and nice playing, i had to listen to that a few times lol it was too purdy.

Listened to it again on the good setup. Verrrrrrrrrrrry nice. I'll be getting a pair.

Got a matched pair of ebay this afternoon.

How can I get the windscreens though?

Can you deliver them by hand to Belfast? I Wanna see the whites of your eye when you sell them to me. Its something i do with everybody.

That's likely to drive up the shipping fees.

So inexpensive I couldn't say no....I hope they ship fast! :)

These things are so cheap i could fly you all over for a weekend, get fucked up on copious amounts of drugs and booze and still have change left over. Though it may be wiser to buy that U47 that i always wanted. Maybe not as fun though. In all seriousness though, is there shipping to uk on these?

How are they for live use?

Well it's all about gain before feedback, and these are omnis . . . it would higly depend on the application and venue.

From http://naiant.com/studiostore/microphones.html

Naiant Studio ships worldwide; however, the shopping cart is only set up to bill US shipping charges. You will be billed for additional shipping charges. Shipping for items other than the stereo bar to most international locations is usually $5.25. Shipping for the stereo bar to most international locations is $14.

how rugged are the mics? I need a pair of sdc for piano, o/h and guitar recording at the high school I teach at. While the recording class is only for a select group of senior students, kids aren't always gentle with equipment - will they survive a bit of rough handling?...
I have to laugh because I've been there. In a situation like that I'd think the highest risk would be students simply losing the mic's, since they're so small. A barrel extension between the mic and cable, left on the mic permanently, would solve that (especially if it was bright orange :D ) Or, well, just paint the mic's themselves orange to avoid this scenario... [10 minutes before showtime] "Mr. Micah!! Mr. Micah!!! we can't find the microphones!!!!!! [9 1/2 minutes later] "Oh wait... there they are. We left them on the cables when we coiled them up after the last show!"

Tim....this is absolutely wonderful!!! I am listening....LOUD!!

The notes are so crisp, so clear and so in your face. The highs are amazing!!! Definitions!! Wow!! Sweeeeet!!!

Upon closing my eyes and letting the music fill me, I see flavours of Renaissance ....a dancer...she bows ever so gracefully in her snowy white, tulip cut dress....it's jagged hem with layers of delicate material, await their calling in the dance.....she bows ever so gracefully, as her body becomes fluent....moving as waves of tall grass, bending and swaying in the breeze....seduced by the touch of her lover's hands, as he masterfully guides her in his song.....the dress follows the cue of her movements, becoming her partner in the dance....it embraces her curves, down to the flowing material of the hem, just as his hands embrace and move each note he plays....Her long auburn hair, enchanted by the sweetness of the notes and ryhthm, caresses her shoulders and face......their song and dance continues until their love has been spent.....as the song comes to a gentle end, she swirls to a finish with a graceful bow, to the master whom has stirred her love.

Ahhhhh....Lawler, you always have a way of bringing out the romantic in me...not to mention the wild visuals!!!! :D
