Hey APL, how do the MSH 2s connect? Is it via male female XLR cables? I saw some weird looking cables on the Naiant site...

The website says something like, "standard XLR" so I assume it's like a 57.

There's a FAQ at the Naiant site that addresses a lot of the recent questions posed here..............

True, but I think he'd still be miles ahead of the curve if he'd list a drum mic set, maybe even on it's own page (with a tab at the top), along with recommended mics to fill out the set. I'd also suggest showing a typical drum kit mic'ed up with his mics, and include a sound file of that specific kit.

There are LOTS of people that want to find what they're looking for, simply and easily, without taking the time to dig through FAQ's.

FWIW. Peace.

i dont know what the big deal is with these mics, i think they sound tinny and hollow. did i get a bad pair? the only use i have found for them are talkback mics... :(

Are you referring to the omnis or the cardioids? The cardioids have a prominent midrange, with rolloff at the top and bottom and don't sound "great," but have a nice attack on rack toms. The omnis sound pretty good, imo.

So, would a spaced pair of omni's be a good idea for recording drums in a very large live sounding room. My bands practice space is in an office in a semitruck repair building so I can get to a very large open space. I'm currently using a XY setup set close over the kit with some close mic's and I thought adding some room sound could be cool.

I just got my matched pair of MSH-1's a couple days ago, and they rock! I used them to record a couple things in stereo in my crappy apartment:

Both of these are dry, so you can get the true sound from them. Don't base your ultimate opinion on my recording tho, since I had the mics too far apart and my room sucks...

I'm considering ordering a second matched set just to have as a backup; I'd hate to be without my MSH-1's now that I have them!

Cool songs! What's your signal chain? The clips sounds harsh to me, I think because of low bitrate MP3.

The guitar and harp sounded good, but a SDC ain't a good choice for vox because they sound, well, harsh on vox.

It was all recorded in one stereo track. I just played the song after hitting record and left it all dry.

I use a yamaha MG 8/2fx mixer with the first two channels tapped at the fx loops(bypasses 80% of the circuitry in the mixer to just use the pre's) into a Delta 1010lt. Nothing fancy. Of course these were with the msh-1's. I have an AKG perception 200 that I use for vox, too.

It would be nice to have the option of mixing the room sound in. Mixing drums can be tricky, the more options you have the better sound you'll get.

Got me order in for 2 MSH1's and 2 MSH1K's at those prices why the hell not!! I'm a newbie to all this but hope to be able to mic drums for demo-ing stuff with these 4, 2 MSH1's as OHs and a MSH1K on kick and one on the snare.. wish me luck!!

I want to order an MSH-1O. I got a 1M which sounds similar to the 1A but I don't like it as much. I heard the 1O is an improved version of the 1A, and I think that will sound better on acoustic.

Has the MSH-10 been dropped? I don't see it in the inventory anymore-I must have got mine just in time. They are great on acoustic instruments. ;)

It's been renamed. It's just MSH-1 and the cardioid version is MSH-1K.

is that really the case? the faq section there makes it sound like the msh-1o is a higher spl version of the msh-1. it's a little confusing though-- my a.d.d. makes it a little hard to sift through all the msh-1x talk :)
