Adam P, Jon is selling the MSH-1K for toms (replacing the 1C) and kick drum...
The MSH-1 and the MSH-2 can be used like OHs...
Hope this helps...

I'm sure MSH has thought about this, but in case he hasn't...

There are a ton of inexpensive "drum mic sets" available, from big and small manufacturers alike, but frankly, most of them don't sound very good.

So, if MSH could create a great sounding drum mic set and sell it at a reasonable price, I think he'd have a major hit on his hands.

Maybe a basic set of four mics, clips, stereo bar and a case to cover the kick, the snare and stereo overheads would be the place to start. Then offer recommendations about which additional mic(s) to buy to cover the other drums (rack toms, floor toms, whatever) if needed.

The physical size of these mics make them perfect for drum mic'ing, and none of the cheap drum mic sets can touch them for good sound...

He was doing this for a while. I think it was two omnis, three or four regular cardioids for snare and toms, and one specially voiced cardioid for kick.

The cardioids were the MSH-1C, and the specially voiced one for kick was the MSH-1K. I'm wondering if the current MSH-1K sounds closer to (or the same as) the 1C or the old 1K from the drum mic package.

There's a FAQ at the Naiant site that addresses a lot of the recent questions posed here..............

Hey, how 'bout that. I never checked the FAQ because I figured it regarded his recording services, not the studio store. You know what they say about people who assume...

They make an ASS of U and ME!!! :D

A question I always ask myself of low cost gear...is it good because it's good, or is it good because it's low cost? I'm not busting MSH's balls, or questioning his awesome talent - I'm really impressed by the guy - but I am just curious.

I think one would do well to buy one of each item MSH makes. It'd cost you less than dinner for two at a mid-to-nice restaurant and you'd have good-sounding gear on hand for a wide variety of applications. Plus, you could likely sell it in a few yrs for more than you paid for it.

Got to say that my initial impression was that, given the price point, MSH would burn himself out on making/selling mikes. The ones I've used are worth much more than the price, so my gut reaction was that unless he eventually raised the prices or arranged for an easy manufacturing process he'd reach a point where it was just too repetitive and tedious.

So buy now!

Did the MSH-10 get discontinued? I don't see it on the site-I guess I got mine just in time. I like them a lot on acoustic stuff, guitar-mandolin-dobro. :)

Hi guys! Anyone tried the MSH-1 as overhead on a small room?
Maybe it´s more like a general question... i record on a small room (4x3x2,1 meters) and i´m not sure if omnis overheads are a good idea for me...

Any clips/comments are welcome!

Cheers,
J.

btw, Anfontan, on the FAQ section of Jon´s site you´ll find the answer...

Wow, nice sounds, especially the wasburn and maraccas. Nice job APL..were you playing 'simple man' by skynrd?

I was just dinkin' around, so any resemlbance to actual music is completely coincidental.

i dont know what the big deal is with these mics, i think they sound tinny and hollow. did i get a bad pair? the only use i have found for them are talkback mics... :(

The big deal is they cost a small percentage of what a regular mic does. For the money, I'm more than wiling to take the risk. What models did you buy?

Hey APL, how do the MSH 2s connect? Is it via male female XLR cables? I saw some weird looking cables on the Naiant site...
