One more thing I`ve seen this guys on youtube doing alignment on a MCI and also on an Otari... It looks so simple and they only use the MRL and this small device that I`m not sure what it is...

Hello duduac,

I've seen those vid's too. Think I even mentioned them early on in this thread. It certainly looks easier in them.One thing I've learned so far..get a good dedicated oscillator up front. It will eliminate the need for an oscilloscope. Fact is, in the manual it shows to connect the oscilloscope in the majority of the adj. but in fact, it's never used. I only used mine to set the different signals.

Lately I've been thinking..I would do better to calibrate my mixer/recorder. This would also allow me to use the mixers on-board oscillator. in this way, all I would need is the multimeter to register the output signal. I haven't tried it in practice. Only a theory at this point. I plan to attempt it today. Will report back.

I think that tool you refer to in the video, is an oscillator.

Yea, Fgonza2. But for all the rest? The manual I suppose assumes you keep the same test set-up. While on the subject of the manual. It occurs to me that there are some irregularity's there. And, some odd wording. USERS BEWARE!

Well finally finished my exams at uni and now I`ve got some free time to myself :D. Do you guys think one of those is useful? I cannot post URL yet ;/

Any other thoughts?

Any one knows any True RMS multimeter that I can buy on ebay? I`m not sure which one to choose?

Hey guys! Well sorry for my absence over the past few weeks, but I went on holidays and when I got back my classes at uni had already started, therefore, I`m still catching up with it. That really sucks haha! Well, just to update you guys about the latest events I have done a few things with my MS-16 suck as cleaning and trying to make a stand for the auto locator and for the function control panel. I bought a TrueRMS multimeter and now I`m starting to get things done. Now, before I start telling you my latest questions I need to say that it is going to be the most stupid question and also that I`m really embarrassed with it, but I just could not figure that out myself so be ready;

I don`t have a proper tone generator and I am running a software from my Iphone to the tape recorder. Now when the manual says " Apply a 1Khz, +4dbm test signal to the input 1..." How the heck do I set my tone generator to +4dbm? I could not find any where how to and now I`m just stuck with this without knowing what to do. I know it is stupid.

Well, a part from this silly questions another thing that happened over the past few weeks is that I got my self a mint condition tascam 388. Just changed the capstan belt and now it is working great and the greatest part is that I can use the Auto Locator with it as well. I`ll be ordering a MRL for it and also for my MCI on the next few weeks and hopefully will have already mastered calibration and other things until then if my wife hasn`t already killed me.

Thanks for your patience again!

Cheers
