im looking at an mr8hd and i wondered about the memory. like when u delete something do u have to go to the menu and find the delete unused to get your time back like the original mr8?

Since I don't own one, and I don't know anyone who does yet, I think you best bet is to go to http://www.fostex.com/ and look for the .pdf owner's manual for the MR-8HD and see what it says about it.

Because the HD is 40GB, it isn't really an issue. You just keep adding songs! I have about 75 song takes on mine so far.... When you want to delete them, though, better be sure there isn't anything there you want ot keep, because essentially you have to reformat the hard drive....

PSCHAAFS....I am considering buying the MR8HD, and would like your overall opinion on the unit. I plan to use it primarily as a recorder, then transfer the files to my computer for editing and such. Does the unit have any short commings that you have noticed. The effects and eq stuff i will be performing on my computer, so...what do you think about the pre's and the overall recording quality. The 4 track simo feature sounds almost too good to be true, much more expensive units can't do that. and the the 40 gig HD sounds way cool. Alot of questions, i know. I just would like some input from a real user. Thanks in advance

Sorry bro...just checked out a few of your previous post's.Looks like your pretty happy with your MR8HD. Have you actually used the 4 track simo feature yet? Any other info would be appreiciated. Thanks again

YEs, I am pretty happy with it. I use it as a recorder, and transfer tracks to pc for mixing. I and my buddy regularly use it to record our guitars and vocals, so the 4-simultaneous inputs get regular use - that's really why I bought this unit. I find that the transferred tracks are very clean coming off the unit.
I run my signal thru a Mackie mixer, to take advantage of the better preamps, then out the insert jack to the MR8HD where I have to add some gain as well. I haven't been very impressed with the sound quality using just the preamps on the unit, but this is really my only complaint.
I find it easy to move and add tracks, so we'll often wind up with 6-8 tracks on a song before it gets to the PC.
I also use it for solo recording with condenser mics, and it does a good job here as well. I haven't used any of the effects.
