Hi peeps,,
i recorded acoustic guitar onto tracks 5 and 6,,,,and it seems that the mr8 decides where the tracks sit in the steroe spectrum,,,,,,bit when i play it back,,its almost all over to one side.
Wassup wiv dat? I mgettin annoyed wi th ewe red box again,,,
its SO frustrating!

Why not just record it on 1,2,3, or 4? Not trying to be snide. It is my understanding that 5/6, 7/8 are for bouncing to.

IIRC, 5-6 and 7-8 are stereo tracks, I seem to think if you record using the first input it goes left and if you record with the second input it goes right. Of course, I could be wrong, so just ignore me (LOL)

stereo tracks

Hi gospel,,
It was just the way it ended up workin out mate,,,
i have struggled SO much with it to get a song done.I had moved stuff around etc,,and ihavent even attempted to bounce all 6 to 7 and 8 yet,,cos theres simply not enough room on the card for me.
I was about to mix it down onto mini disc when i realised that there was around 90 seconds left,,so i thought i would stick on a wee bit of acoustic to fill up the solo backing. Thats when i realised that it was mostly comin out one side.i think i MUST get a much biger CF card at some point though,,cos the way it is now is puttin me off startin another track.
Hi Dyuob,,,
I dunno either mate,,,but SURELY not eh? Thats would be madness on Fostex part!
Ta for the comments!

Monsterpop, me old mate. Take the jump and move the tracks onto the computer. You'll be really thankful that you did. It's really worth the extra effort to learn this. Most of us have done this and are not encountering the problems you are dealing with. I returned your private email and explained how to do it. If you need more help many of us on this board will be happy to take the time to answer your questions. :)

Hi mate,,,
thanks,,i will have a wee look at the "how to" you sent me.
i am NOT a technically minded guy at all mate,,so im doin well to even stuff recorded. Man,,,i cant even get the md to pc thing goin properly without mad distortion,,,and crappy low levels.
I really appreciate the help offered on this forum,,,,,its great to be able to ask a stupid questionif required,,and not be laughed out the door.Im away to look now,,,
thanks again mate!

the whole stereo track thing

Yeah, that stereo track thing works out kinda strange on ye olde mr-8 (Magic Red).

You didn't really mention HOW you recorded onto 5/6. If you were using a STEREO Microphone, hypothetically speaking, that would be no problem. I tried to record two mono vocal tracks onto 5/6 at the same time last night and the Magic Red wouldn't let me.

My deduction is this: Red is picky about mono and stereo (and rightly so, lots of times computer programs will just fake a stereo track by duplicating the mono track into a left and right channel--it always amazes me how that mono microphone will record in stereo on my PC ;)). So it is probably best if you record things that are Mono onto 1-4 and bounce to 5/6 or 7/8.

try it out

Dustin

(PS I hope my crappy comments actually help . . . LOL)
