is it worth 400?

Im looking to buy my first recorder and i heard this was good i want digital and i want to record other bands i like the dp-01 too but this one ive heard better stuff about

Is the harddrive reliable?
will it crash ?
Is it better then the tascam dp-01?

help me

its different...

depends on what u need...what jumps out, at least for me (im considering the dp-01cd) is the 8 mono tracks and the usable mixer section...having owned the mr8 (first version), i can tell u that the pres sound like you're in a tin can, and that there's no editing hability whatsoever. the fx suck, and there are only 4 mono tracks..the rest are stereo pairs, and if u mixdown to them, they will only have sound on one side of the stereo field, wich is weird and unheard of, at least for me. i dunno if i kept doing something wrong or whatever, but mixing down to those tracks will harvest very stupid results..so basically its a 4 track digital recorder, with limitations all over. for me, the mr8 is cleary a bullet in the toe for fostex, and i really hope this new mr8hd sounds a little better, cause the mr8 is an insult to the rest of the gear you have around it. check out both websites and see how they spec out, compare and choose.

you must have a buss problem or busted pan pots b/c i can bounce to 5/6 or 7/8 and they are in stereo w/out a problem, panned the way I mixed them. Hopefully it's still under warantee....

hey John..

actually it was like that since day one so...go figure...i since sold it to my brother, he never uses the stereo pairs and doesnt care so its ok...i know u have the korg d1600mkII...i have the 1200...its a beatiful machine..but im ready for a downgrade ;) im looking at the tascam dp-01fxcd for simplicity of use. i always got used to getting things right on the first take, i have no need for a million virtual tracks and a brutality of fx ill never use...hopefully the downgrade wont be earable, especially with the outboard gear i have, cause damn, these korgs do sound good. i hope you're still enjoying yours! mine's on ebay :D

If the recording parts work at least as well as the original MR8, yes.

One good approach for MR8/MR8HD models is using it to record and the PC to mix. That way you get all the tracks you want, PC effects, but portable recording flexibility. That coupled with the hard drive means many takes without running out of space.

hey Diogo, if you do indeed get a different machine, what do you want for your D1200? you can PM me or send email to me at JS1@copper.net.

Is there a review of the Machine or can someone do a pros and cons because I am thinking of getting this to. Though I would use it to record then dump the tracks to Cake Walk Home Studio

Thanks

I'm gonna have to take a deeper look into the mr8 hd since I have the mr8. I wanna know what's different besides the hd and no batts....

Four inputs and recorded tracks at once as compared to 2 with MR8. That's one big difference.
