mr8 eq, acoustic guitar

Hi, even with the problem with the noise and the fact that fostex does not answer cries for help so far, this thing is kinda cool and it sounds better to me then th br532 and the mrs4 and the tascam thing!

However, can any one share tips on recording acoustic guitar and what are you doing for eq??

As far as eq, I'm finding that I'm needing less and less, as I'm learning more about the sound of my guitar, and (esp.) my ukulele. Mic placement and (to a lesser extent) what kind of room I'm recording in has a lot to do with the sound. I had wanted to use a parametric eq on my voice, but, again, mic placement solved that problem.
I've been using a cheap Nady and an EV PL-78, and so far, I've been very satisfied with the results.
Now, trying to mic a wasboard is another story, as the attack is very hard, and the decay is very fast, but, with a little trial and error I got a decent take.
 
I just recorded a song with an acoustic with a pick-up in it, unfortunately without a pre amp of sorts im kinda stuck with how it sounds maybe I'll post it for you to listen but the playing suks because I'm still learning guitar:)

Are you using mics? or pickup like me?

I have been using a Behringer UB1002 mixer but I have found that you can actually EQ the brilliancy right out of a guitar if you're not carefull (DUH). I guess we're all still learning here (hope I'm not the only one) but for the money, I've been very pleased with the mixer.

Yeah sometimes too much just ruins everything:)

micing acoustic guitar

Mic placement is critical. Keep your mics at least 6" away from the guitar and even try as far away as 12". This gives the tone of the guitar a chance to really develop before you capture it by the mic. Also, try rotating the mic off axis to take advantage of the polar response pattern of the mic. This will give you control of the inherent treble and bass response of the mic. Try micing from above for more bass response and from below for more treble. I also find that the mic simulators can be effective even if they are subtle. The tube setting adds a nice mid range boost. The best acoustic guitar sound will come from stereo micing in some form of an " x-y " pattern. Try one mic at the end of the fingerboard and another behind the bridge to pick up more body sound. This should give you a full rich sound without the use of any EQ at all. On playback the "Natural" mastering effect is a very nice addition to the overall sound.

i started with an sm58 and copied the track to 5/6. my ear is not there yet but it sounded o.k.

i have an at 4047 and i will try that next.

it is the first no b.s. machine that i have brought home so far,,ps5,ps02.mrs4,br532,br1180,vs890...whoa.

i do have a digi001 and this mr8 serves wonderfully as a pre-prod. box and sounds great, i did want a poratable but couldnt justify the redundancy at any higher of a price.

it's a cool litle red box!
