Hi People,

as promised this song now has bass and drums added. I think it's an improvement although I'd be very interested in peoples comments. I was a bit zombified last night when I mixed this ... the drums are a bit experimental in places too... Anyway tell me what you think

"Mr X Mk II" (3rd song on list)

hey dre, this is a vast improvement and i like it much better with the drums and bass. it grooves good. howd you do the drums just curious?they sound pretty good on my pc speakers and in my cans. nice job and a decent performance as well. thanks for sharing tim pate god bless

Thanks mate ... it's nice to know my efforts are appreciated :)

Drums are produced from one of those evil electric kits. ;) I have a Roland TD-8 that I play in live. It's extremely flexible and you can truely waste hours picking exactly the right snare, tom, tuning every cymbal etc etc etc. But the results are usually pritty good... it's an awesome unit which is largely hampered by the users skill to get the best out of it ;)

Nice song, with some cool chord changes. I haven't heard the original, but the bass and drums certainly make it dynamic. Only thing I would watch is the toms on the drums, as they sound a bit synthetic, where as the snare and cymbals sound pretty real. I also kept thinking something else, perhaps some lead guitar or piano, would help add an extra dimension. Good song, though :)

Nice tune! Nice mellow recording, pleasing to listen to!

Great harmonies!

Nothing to add here, Good job!

Yeah dres! This is soundin good. I think your movin in the right direction. Are you gonna add anything else? Electric guitar? I like it when the bass moves away from the tonic.
Yeah I see what Diplo means about the toms.
Rock on!

Twist

It really enhanced the character with the additions. It seems to go together well. The toms get a little washed over in one part. The guitar is louder during the choruses, I`d pick the bass and drums up a lil there too. The verse part sounds really good. cool deal.

Thanks people. I don't even own an electric guitar but I agree there are places for a lead instrument .... so if anyone want to collaborate ??

Not exactly shure what people mean about the toms ... can some one give a specific time mins:secs on the mp3 ?

Thanks

listening again... yep I agree ... those toms have to go I think ... I kinda liked them a bit (for another song) ... but here I need something else.

Do people think they work at all ... OK at the end or not ?

i like the addtions dres. i agree with twist about bass lines that venture away from the root, however, there is something that sounded a little too dissonant in the third bar for me. just preference.

i also agree that this could even use more. horns, piano maybe. dude, you need a band.

one more constructive item that i keep forgetting to metion as well. for some reason, i don't like that you record your countoff everytime. i don't know why that bugs me but it's like i know that with every song of yours i gotta fast forward like 8-10 seconds before i get to the actual song.

you've got skills dres, and this song is another prime example of that. most christian music doesn't do much for me, but somehow yours makes me listen.

cheers.

btw, i found a buyer for the v-kit, so sometime in the near future (which is like 12-16 month horizon for me anymore) i'll have some badly recorded, but real drum tracks to offer.

Nice choice in the drum playing!
Really fits the atmosphere of the tune nciely.
This tune is screaming for some piano.
Wish I could play better ir I'd give it a shot.
Some Percussive instruments, tamborine, maracas, sand bag, or anything would really spice up the ambience.
You sing wonderfully and its a nice tune!

Cool dres!

Definitely going in the right direction. I feel your pain on the elec. guitar. Mine needs a new neck and I have no $$$, but this is sreaming for some. Very nice tune...I like it a lot. The toms are a little strange sounding in here to me too, but most of the drums sound damn good.

Nice job.

Hi people... back again ( I have no internet access at home over the weekend :( )

Thanks for listening again ... I agree with 90% of what's being said ... I sat down to redo some of the drums this weekend but it didn't happen.... will hopefully have another go in a few days and repost. In the meantime I'm really digging for collaborators ... I have a friend who plays electric but I'm not holding my breath since we've been trying to get together for a jam for about 6 months !! Ironically it's easier to collaborate with people on the other side of the world than people in my own city !!

erichenryus: sorry about the count-in's ... the reason why I leave it in is so it makes collaboration easier ... if someone gets the urge they don't have to wait for a new file to be posted ... (it's happened to me once before). Thanks for the complements - it means a lot ... I've now got enough good songs for a 2nd album... if I can muster the time and disipline to piece it all together ;), (p.s. well done on selling the V-Kit !!)

jcmm : Thanks for listening ... If you wanna have a go at some additions please do ... have no fear .. I will tell you if it's not up to standard ;) .. And yes I'll try and sneak some percussion in too. Cheers

Jagular : I will redo the toms soon. Glad you like the tune.

Lyrics

Looks like I have a collaborator for guitar ... he asked for the lyrics so I thought I might put them here for all to see.

Verse1

Mr X was a righteous man he knew exactly what to do
He had a massive army at his command who did exactly what he said
Don't ask why his enemies must die, he knew exactly who they were
So with a loaded gun he continued on, we know exactly what comes next.

Chorus

But it ain't necessarily so, there are plans of God that no body knows
No it ain't necessarily so, God can change our lives as his kingdom grows
So I pray for peace and I speak my mind, to a God who overthrows
No it ain't necessarily so, no it ain't necessarily so

Verse 2

Mr Y was an evil man, we knew exactly what he'd done
He'd been warned before to expect a war, and now there's no-where left to run
Can we justify why the innocent die and all the wars that have begun.
Now the people fear that judgement is near, they know exactly what comes next

Verse 3

Mr Z got down on his knees he knew exactly what to do
His faith was strong and his heart was true, he knew exactly what God wants
His prayers were sincere full of holy fear, he knew exactly what to say
And if he prays long enough he can call God's bluff and that's exactly what he thought
