mpc 2000 or reason???

what would be better for electronic music? i know it is a basic question but generally what would be better? i dont know much about either....im new at creating beats with this type of gear.(all i have right now is a boss dr 660)
also, with the mpc can i buy different drum kits on a cd or set of floppys and load them into the mpc and the sounds will go to the pads upon loading??
 
personally I'd go mpc all day.and yeah you can get sample cds and load them into it....tht'a one reason it has been THE standard in hip hop music for so many years.also the timing on the mpc is hot!

i got reason. never tried the mpc so I can't compare, but i'm doing some good shit with reason.

you're doing electronic music? what do you mean? if you're not doing hip hop, if you're doing techno, electro, stuff like that, i'd go with reason. it's just got crazy synths, great effect devices (especially on version 2.5).
 
You are comparing a $600- $1200 piece of hardware that is close to 15 years old, to $300 software. The MPC is a nice tool, but it is just a sequencer/drum machine/sampler and is limited to (32 MB). It does not compare to Reason, which is an entire production suite. If your PC has good specs, I'd suggest reason hands down.
 
FUCK AN MPC unless it's MPC 60!!!!

Used Yamaha RS7000 for about $500.00 bucks is how I'd go...

Works for whatever your flavor(s) of music is.

Reason is cool, too, but the buttons & knobs on the RS, oh, the buttons & knobs!!!

i'd go MPC. the converters in it seem to do nice things to hip hop.
 
In my personal experences

I've seen people with bare min equipment put out tracks
that would make u think they have an mpc an all kinds of equipment...I've also seen cat's who buy an Mpc because they think it's magic an if you have one you can make hit's left an right and it def isn't the case at all. I would say go with acid,cubase,sonar and get some nice sample packs...get a midi controller an go from there. The greatest advantage i see with an mpc if you don't have a laptop is taking it to the studio. Just my thoughts on the subject Peace

The guy who said that the mpc is much idfferent than Reason is right. Although you can load samples other than drums into the mpc, it is not even in the same category as Reason except that Reason does have a drum module and you can make beats.

The main thing about the mpc that many people like is the playability of the pads. But now you can get the pads in a sepeerate unit to trigger any software drum program you happen to like.

More importantly, if you are going to create your own beats, the mpc is still the reigning champ in Rap. However, if you plan to use sampled loops and pre-produced loops, Reason goes way, way beyond anything the mpc can do. In fact, most of the tools being used today for production were not around when the mpc was designed.

One last point. I just read an article about a very well known Rap producer, Frd Wreck I believe is his name. Although he could have any gear he wanted, he still uses an mpc.

By the way, youo might also want to check out the MachineDrum which is probably the most highly regarded drum machine being made today. Look for Machine Drum on Yahoo or whatever for the site location.
 
My DJ has used an MPC, and currently uses Nuendo and FL Studio. The beats definitely have a different flavour when he uses the different tools but thats all they are. Different means to an end. I would grab what you can afford. Expand as you go. The more ways you learn to get to your end the better your shit will sound and more diverse. IMHO...He started with a MPC. It still would be a nice addition to our studio for sure. You can just buy the pads seperate aswell. So like said above if all your after is to be able to hit a very nice pad then thats an option that can expand your computer...Less money spent.
